Davis, former big willie at Arista,
is looking for artists for his new label, J Records. He recently
purchased a full floor for the new labels office space, located
at 745 Fifth Avenue, 6th Floor in New York City.
The new office has
views of Central Park and is close to the street. The office is
also a few blocks from The Arista Building, which is located at
6 West 57th Street. J Records, which received nearly $150 Million
in financing, and is still under the BMG group of labels, signed
a 10 year deal for the entire 6th floor of the building. Clive
Davis is best known for his leadership abilities, running CBS,
and being responsible for bringing in such powerhouse labels as
LaFace, Rowdy and Bad Boy.
Davis also announced
that he will give Wyclef Jean his own imprint, Clef Records. Wyclef
will be responsible for finding and signing new talent, and J
Records will cover the sales, marketing, distribution and promotion
of his label, which is a 50-50 joint venture.
