is in serious trouble. Two major credit card companies have canceled

the cards of customers who bought music from CD Universe, from

which a hacker claims to have stolen 300,000 credit card numbers.

Customers of American Express and Discover will be, or already

have been, reissued new cards, the companies said. About 30 to

50 CD Universe customers have reported unfamiliar transactions

on their credit cards. A hacker calling himself Maxus, e-mail

to the New York Times two weeks ago, saying he had obtained 300,000

credit card numbers and gave out 25,000 of them on another Web

site/ That site was quickly shut down. The FBI was brought in

and they are handling the case. Discover Financial Services is

reissuing more than 10,000 credit cards, most of which have already

been sent to customers for preventative measures. According to

Visa, about 180,000 of the stolen numbers were Visa numbers, but

more than half of those had already expired. CDuniverse can expect

to suffer from the hackers actions.
