Shyne
was sentence to 10 years in Rykers after being convicted
for a December 1999 shooting. Convicted in March, Shyne
admitted to having a gun yet maintained he didn’t
shoot anyone. According to MTV, Shyne said, "I’m
(appealing) for mercy (and for the court) not to waste
my life." Since entering jail, Shyne has started
YES, a program where he speaks to troubled youth.
According to MTV, Cheryl Fox Spencer, a representative
for Shyne indicated that the 21 year-old had completed
a second album entitled Dear America. Whether
or not the album would be on Puffy Comb’s Bad Boy
Records was unclear. However, she said it would at least
be released through Arista Records, Bad Boy’s parent
label.
Prior to sentence, Shyne called BET’s "106
& Park" yesterday and spoke to host AJ and
Free. He expressed gratitude for the support from fans
and friend. He also said he was counseling many of the
youth within the prison via his new organization, YES
(Youth Empowerment Sessions). "I’m just trying
to share with them what it took for me to survive,"
he said. "Right now we are living in hell, being
tortured."
