After
all the controversy surrounding Jayo
Felony and his beef with Snoop Dogg and the
Dogg Pound, Jayo has dropped the title "Crip Hop"
for his new album and will go with Trip Hop instead. The
album will drop on his own Loco Records and will feature
appearances from Ja Rule, E-40 and more. At this stage
it looks as though ‘Trip Hop’ will drop on October 23rd.
Jayo caused
a stir earlier this year. His song "True’d Up,"
was a diss to Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg. "Jay-Z snitched
to [Def Jam head Lyor Cohen] and tried to keep the song
from being put out,” Jayo told MTV. “We got calls from
Lyor and everybody about not putting this record out.
I feel like this: If we’re on the streets, keep it on
the streets. Don’t go to the higher-ups.”
While shooting
his video for True’s Up, which appeared on the Jimmy "Haitian
Jack" Henchman compilation, Bulletproof Love in Brooklyn,
gunfire rang out. Plainclothes officers on patrol near
the Van Dyke Houses saw men standing in the street firing
handguns in the air and someone filming them. Four men
were subsequently arrested: Kenneth James, 22, Jamie Evans,
25, Steve Brockett (AKA JFK), 23 and 19-year-old Jermaine
Cobbs.
Police could
not get the footage because an unidentified artist boarded
a flight to Los Angeles early Friday (April 27th) with
the film. A nearby surveillance camera owned by the Housing
Authority reportedly captured some of the shooting.
