Angie Martinez has quit her judging position

on Fox’s popular TV series, "American Idol." Martinez joined the show

to judge hopefuls on talent, ability, look and style, helping Paula Abdul, Simon

Cowell and Randy Jackson whittle down the group of thousands of eager contestants

to a short list of potential superstars who will perform on air every week.

Martinez said that she was not comfortable judging

people or telling people that they didn’t have what it takes to make it. "I

felt like I was compromising my personality to be on a hit television show,"

Martinez told AllHipHop.com. "It was just too uncomfortable for me to tell

someone else to give up on their dream, especially when I realized that many

of them have supported my musical career."

Martinez is currently promoting the second single

and video, “Take You Home,” from her latest CD, Animal House.

She is also heading up a production company of the same name and is in search

of new talent.

Martinez is also the host of HBO Zone’s

“Stretch,” and still ranks as the #1 radio DJ in her time slot on

New York’s Hot 97 and will be for Latina Heritage Month by NYC Controller William

Thompson at City Hall on November 25th for her contributions to the Latin community.
