A hip-hop summit for high school students scheduled for tomorrow (March 10) has been cancelled because organizers were not able to secure the $30,000 needed to conduct the event, according to recent reports.
Another summit for college students, however, will still take place tomorrow at the Carrier Dome on the campus of Syracuse University.
The Hip-Hop Summit Action Network jointly sponsored both summits. Reportedly, the high school summit was supposed to feature the same hip-hop stars as the college summit, but they would differ in philosophical approaches.
The high school summit was to feature conversations regarding civic participation and voter registration, while the college summit is being billed as an educational dialogue between students and stars.
More than $15,000 was raised for the high-school summit, which was to have taken place at the War Memorial. Conversely, the college summit met their goal of raising $50,000 for their event.
Funds raised for the high school summit will be returned to donors.
The Syracuse Hip-Hop Summit will take place March 10 at the Carrier Dome. Expected attendees included the remaining members of B2K, Fabolous, Doug E. Fresh and Reverend Run.
