ODB’s Mother, Manager Sue Production Company For Exploitation

Cherry Jones, mother of the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and former manager Jared Weisfeld is suing AGU Entertainment, a Florida based company for allegedly exploiting the name her deceased son.

The suit, for a reported $1.8 million, claims that the company failed to fulfill written obligations for the rapper’s “Blackass” DVD set while still using the ODB brand to lure investors.

“Filing a lawsuit was the last resort that Cherry and I wanted to take, but we had no other choice,” Weisfeld told AllHipHop.com.

ODB’s upcoming posthumous release, The Party, which features production from the Neptunes and the RZA will be released with this spring through the Damon Dash Music Group.

In 2004, the rapper inked a recording contract with Roc-A-Fella Records and signed a Pact with AGU entertainment to produce a documentary, chronicling the life of the rapper as re recorded his latest studio album.

ODB, born Russell Jones suffered from a fatal heart attack at a Manhattan studio November 4. During a recent autopsy, authorities stated that the rapper died of an accidental overdose of cocaine and prescription painkillers.

As of press time, phone calls to AGU were unreturned.
