The Hip-Hop Theater
Festival heads to New York City for one week to mark it’s 5th year anniversary,
June 11th – June 18th.
This year’s festival
will highlight work developed from Hip-Hop artists over the past year and includes
live music, theatre, dance, spoken word, various workshops and the premieres
of two productions by acclaimed international artists: UK popper Benji Reid
in "13 Mics" and German B-Boy Niels “Storm” Robitzky in
"Solo For Two."
From solo works
to ensemble pieces, HHTF unites the best of both emerging and established Hip-Hop
artists from around the country.
This year the event
will be hosted between New York Theater Workshop, Dance Theater Workshop and
the Apollo Theater.
Over the past five
years, the Hip-Hop Theater Festival has grown from a fledgling project into
an independent non-profit organization that has sought to bring audiences and
artists from the Hip-Hop generation together with traditional mainstream theater
audiences.
In addition to
dates in New York, HHTF has also planned to make stops in Washington D.C. (July)
and Chicago (September).
