The Ying Yang Twins and Sir-Mix-A-Lot are among the entertainers taking part in Copyright Awareness Week, a new nationwide initiative that aims to educate young people about the importance of copyright laws.
In addition to those rappers, Grammy Award-winning R&B singer John Legend and rock group 3 Doors Down will create public service announcements about the protection of creative works, which will be broadcast on some 2,000 stations.
Teachers are being encouraged to participate in the week, which already has the support of the National Association for Music Education, the National Art Education Association and the National Council of Teachers of English.
ASCAP, BMI, the Motion Picture Association of America, EMI Publishing, the Harry Fox Agency, Time-Warner, Inc. and others are among the sponsors of the week, which is spearheaded by the Copyright Society.
Other artists also participating in the CAW public service announcements include Deborah Allen, Gavin DeGraw, Paul Overstreet, Martina McBride and songwriter Leslie Satcher.
Copyright Awareness Week is from March 6-10.
