Production duo Midi Mafia’s Family Ties Entertainment imprint and SRC /Universal Motown recently signed an agreement in association with Hot City Music Group to produce new R&B artist Shire'(Sha-Ray).
The singer is a former member of the R&B group Lovher, a short lived girl group formed by Dru Hill member Sisqo. The group’s best known singles were 2002’s “How It’s Gonna Be” and “Girlfriend.”
Midi Mafia member Bruce Waynne predicted that Shire’ will be an artist to watch.
“Shire’ has depth, substance and most of all, she can really sing,” he said. “She will remind you of the first time you heard Aretha Franklin.”
The addition of Shire’ is one of a string of recent accomplishments for Midi Mafia.
The pair, comprised of songwriter/artist Waynne and engineer/DJ Dirty Swift, are enjoying the fruits of their success with songs for Fantasia (“When I See You”) and Jennifer Lopez (“Hold It, Don’t Drop It,” a track off her upcoming album).
The good fortune is a turnaround from Dirty Swift’s near death motorcycle accident in 2006.
The year also proved to be difficult for Waynne, who ended his marriage and became involved in a bitter lawsuit against a former business associate.
Nevertheless, music fans can look forward to more projects from Midi Mafia, including R&B singer Deemi’s upcoming debut album, Soundtrack of My Life.
The release, a collaboration between Family Ties, Dangerous LLC and Atlantic Records, is slated to hit stores later this year.
