Lil Mo’s new project Pain and Paper will be released under her new independent label HoneyChild Entertainment in late August.

Pain and Paper is the first album in four years for Lil Mo, who is known for singing on hit records like Ja Rule’s “Put It On Me” Missy Elliott’s “Hot Boys” and her own hit single “Superwoman,” which helped launch the career of rapper Fabolous.

“I came up with the title Pain and Paper because I always felt like in order to get to the top, there is always a struggle, ‘where much is needed, much is required’,” Lil Mo told AllHipHop.com. “For this album, I called everybody myself. I did it myself and they just came through. I mean we worked out, we got it in. My lawyer calls me the female Jay-Z. I mean, I’m so involved, from the way I want my hair, down to the shoes and toenail polish I want in my video.”

Lil Mo, who’s debut album Based On a True Story is certified gold, was once affiliated with Irv Gotti’s Murder Inc. Records, but left in 2002 due to a financial dispute.

Her sophomore album Meet the Girl Next Door was met with lukewarm reception.

Lil Mo signed with Cash Money Records, but her third album, Syndicated: The Lil Mo Hour, was never released.

With Pain and Paper, Lil Mo has taken more of an interest in the business affairs of her career.

“This album was written and executive produced by myself and my business partner Russell Webster,” Lil’ Mo stated. “We call ourselves the ‘major indie’ because we’re independent and do it ourselves, but we have major outlets as far as my publicity, promotion and everything else.”

Pain and Paper features guest appearances from Fabolous, Trina, Da Brat, and Kat Williams, with production from Brian Michael Cox.

The first single off of Pain and Paper is titled “Sumtimes I” featuring Jim Jones. A video for the single is slated to be shot next week.

Pain and Paper is set to be released August 28th.
