Pastor Troy Talks Rock Album, Label Switch

Pastor Troy may hold a championship belt to symbolize his self proclaimed status as the “crunk king” of the South, but fans may be surprised at the rapper’s next musical direction following the release of his latest album Tool Muziq.”I am going to drop a rock album,” Pastor Troy revealed to AllHipHop.com. “I got this rock character I have been trying to create for a while now. I have been talking about it for a couple of years. His name is Mavado.”Although Mavado is a departure from Pastor Troy’s familiar rap persona, there are vocal similarities between the two, according to the rapper.”When I’m in the character, I’m a straight rock character. It’s cool to be able to flip it out like that. Everybody can’t do that,” said Pastor Troy. “My voice already wild like a rock singer. I just want to hear myself do it. We got a lot of songs in the bag. I want to try and step out with that before the end of the year. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. “Pastor Troy’s new outlook comes as he celebrates the release of the Tool Muziq album, which features production from Shawty Red, Drumma Boy, DJ Squeeky and Zaytoven, and is the rapper’s latest project under his new recording home SMC Records.”SMC is cool. I dealt with them last year and sold a lot of records without any kind of push,” said Pastor Troy, about the label’s backing of his 2006 album Stay Tru. “It was through a third party that took me through SMC. We got rid of the middle man and now we dealing with them direct. I think we are going to have a lot of success over the years.”Pastor Troy’s Tool Muziq, which includes guest appearances from Gangsta Boo, Hitman Sammy Sam, Fabo, and Mr. Mudd, is in stores now.
