Reggaeton artist Daddy Yankee has been hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit over a song contained on his multiplatinum third album, 2004′s Barrio Fino.
In a lawsuit filed in United States District Court for the Central District of California, plaintiff Victor M. Lopez Jr. alleges that Daddy Yankee used a musical composition on the track “Salud Y Vida” and while Lopez has received credit for his contribution, he has yet to be compensated.
“Daddy Yankee’s representatives tried to negotiate a deal with Lopez to include the song on the Barrio Fino album, but when negotiations broke down, they simply used the composition without permission,” alleges Peter Afrasiabi of the law firm Turner, Green, Afrasiabi & Arledge.
Lopez is seeking an undisclosed amount from Universal Music Latino, Interscope Records and Daddy Yankee’s record label, El Cartel.
