Underrated and unrecognized are terms that get thrown around so often in music it’s hard to take them serious anymore. If someone was to ask about an artist who has worked with Nas, Royce Da 5’9″, Papoose, M.O.P., and the Terror Squad, as well as has the support of DJ Premier, that has yet to truly blow up, most would say that person doesn’t exist. Termanology begs to differ, as the Lawrence, Massachusetts based MC drops Big Mike & Statik Selektah Presents Termanology…Hood Politics V and shows you just how those terms should be used.This mixtape is filled with empathy, as Termanology craftily expresses himself in several forms, whether it be accompanied by a Primo scratch on “So Amazing”, behind a soothing soul sample with “In God We Trust” (Featuring Easy Money) or a gritty beat accompanied by a B.I.G chorus on “Hardcore” (Featuring Reks). Though these songs, you get a taste of his skill of not just putting together similes but making a true song that doesn’t sound like a bunch of bars thrown in a blender. You get the feeling that you’re listening to an MC who has studied the game and understands it well. The supporting cast for Hood Politics V seems to be at album status, considering he has great production from legends such as Premier and Marley Marl (“50 Bodies”) mixing with proven vets such as Buckwild. Newer sounds from the likes of DJ Don Cannon and fellow Lawrence native Statik Selektah are also in the mix. Not just that, he has got some extremely solid guest spots by the likes of Canibus,Royce Da 5’9, Akrobatik, Evidence and Lil Fame.
