Prosecutors with the Yuma County Attorneys Office formally charged Lil Wayne with felony drug and weapons charges today (January 25) in a Wellton, Arizona court.
Despite the rappers well documented drug use, he was officially charged with possession of a narcotic for sale, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and misconduct involving a weapon.
The rappers tour bus was stopped Tuesday morning (January 22) at a U.S. Border Patrol near Dateland, Arizona, which is over 75 miles from Yuma.
A canine unit alert officers to the possibility of drugs on the rappers tour bus, which was carrying 11 other people.
According to officers, 25-year-old rapper allegedly consented to a search of the tour bus. Police found over 3 ounces of marijuana, almost 2 ounces of cocaine and 41 grams of Ecstacy.
DEA agents arrested the rapper, who was booked into the Yuma County Jail, before he was released on $10,185 bail.
A bail restriction prohibiting him from leaving the state of Arizona was also lifted today. Lil Waynes manager Cortez Bryant said that the rapper will plead not guilty at a preliminary hearing, which is set for February 12.
Now that the restriction has been lifted, Lil Wayne will continue to tour.
The rapper is enroute to perform at a sold out show tonight in Richmond, Virginia at 7:00 PM.
