After months of battling to prove they’ve got what it takes to be part of the roster over at Bad Boy Records, Day 26 also known to many as – “The Guys from MTV’s Making The Band 4” have finally dropped their first single “Got Me Going.” Willie, Qwanell, Brian, Mike, and Robert harmonize and blend well together on this track produced by Mario Winans and Diddy, but overall the song is extremely lackluster for a first single.

Upon hearing the song for the first time it reminded me of something you’d hear from past boy band groups such as N’Sync or even The Backstreet Boys, which was very disappointing. Personally, I expected the guys to emerge with an R&B sound similar to groups such as New Edition, Boys II Men, or even Jodeci, but instead the single possesses more of a Top 40 sound.

In essence, “Got Me Going” lacks soul and it’s questionable if Urban radio will embrace this type of song. After all, it’s a far cry from the Day 26’s labelmates Danity Kane’s first single “Show Stopper.” Maybe instead of pairing the groups against one another in the new season of Making The Band, Diddy should have linked them together for Day 26’s first single. Imagine that! With intentions to drop their new album first quarter, let’s hope Day 26 has more to offer than what “Got Me Going” provides. What do you think?
