Rapper Marky Mark may not be with the Funky Bunch, but the group is exploring new territory with a new name and the release of its forthcoming album, Stands Alone.
The Boston-based group, now known as the Funk Bs, is comprised of original members, “Great” Scott Ross, Hector “HB” Barros and Terry “DJ -T” Yancy and new members Jaime “Avalanche” Haage, Lola “LB” Frazier, Chad “Dragon” Penney, Dawayne “DJ Rareform” Branco and Michael “Yung Piff” (Da Prince) Wilder.
The project marks the latest achievement for the Funky Bunch, who is best known for their ‘90s hit song “Good Vibrations.”
The song, which was taken from Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch’s album Music for the People, hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1991.
The collective released another album, 1992’s You Gotta Believe, before “Marky” Mark Wahlberg left the group to pursue an acting career.
According to group member “Great” Scott Ross, the timing couldn’t be better for the Funky Bunch, whose last album Life After Platinum helped reintroduce the group to the music scene.
“Hector, Terry, and I have had the opportunity to do many wonderful things in and outside of the music industry since the days of ‘Good Vibrations.’ We always knew that we would do another musical venture together,” Ross said in a statement. “This year it felt like it was the right time to return. The music on our new CD represents the best in world music and the newest members add a great sound and new look to our product.”
The release of Stands Alone will be preceded by the group’s debut single “She Said,” which will be released on May 20.
The Funk Bs will hit the road in support of the 10-song album, with 10 concert dates in Canada, followed by a multi-city tour in the US.
