Police have revealed that a Sig Sauer .45 caliber recovered by police was indeed the weapon that a killer or killers used to murder Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew.

Police found the bodies of Darnell Donerson, 57, and Jason Hudson, 29 on Friday (October 21) inside of their Chicago home.

The body of Hudson’s nephew Julian King was found days later on Wednesday (October 27) inside of Jason’s SUV.

Police are now investigating if the gun used to kill the family belonged to Jason, who allegedly owned a similar weapon.

“We’ve still got a lot more to do,” said Chicago Police Department Superintendent Jody Weis. “There’s still a lot more forensic examination to do. Right now, we’re extraordinarily pleased and satisfied that the weapon has been identified as the weapon that has been used in the homicides. And there’s still more work to do which we are doing at this time.”

Authorities are investigating if the weapon is the same gun Jason purchased after he was robbed and shot during an earlier altercation in Gary, Indiana.

The unfired bullets found in the gun matched the make and model of the shell casings found at the scene of the grizzly slayings.

The gun was found on Wednesday, just a block away from where Hudson’s 7-year-old nephew Julian was found slain, with two bullets in his head, inside of Jason’s SUV.

The ATF also confirmed that the recovered gun was originally taken from a legitimate owner in Michigan, who had previously reported the gun stolen.

At press time, police have one person of interest, William Balfour, in custody.

Balfour, who was married to Hudson’s sister Julia, was allegedly affiliated with the Gangster Disciples and police claim Hudson’s brother Jason was as well.

On Monday (November 3), the Hudson family will hold a private, invitation-only memorial service for her mother, brother and nephew at the Hudson Funeral Home.

A second, public memorial will be held later in the week, to allow fans to mourn the deaths of Hudson’s family members.
