Hollywoods top actor and famed rapper Will Smith is in talks with director Steven Spielberg to star in a new movie titled Oldboy.
The movie, which is a remake of a 2003 Korean film by the same name, centers around a man who is kidnapped and held in a dilapidated jail cell for 15 years.
The plot takes a turn when Smiths character is freed, given a cell phone and set on a path to discover who framed him, so he can seek revenge.
According to reports, Spielberg is looking for a writer for the film, which was originally directed by Chan wook-Park and is currently in the developmental stages.
The original movie was penned by Garon Tsuchiya and is based on the comic by Nobuaki Minegishi.
Oldboy is part of Parks “trilogy of vengeance” films which includes Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.
No release date is available for Oldboy.
In related news, Smith was recently voted the most popular personality in the United States by surveys conducted by industry trade Parade and popular TV show Entertainment tonight.
“I think a large part of why I’ve been successful is that I have, essentially, a white-collar career with a blue-collar mentality. I can never really relax. I’m always waiting to see what’s next,” Smith said.
Tom Hanks, Reese Witherspoon, George Clooney and Brad Pitt were all runners up.
