With a little more than a month to go before serving a year in prison, T.I. is using the small screen to deter fans from taking the same road he took, which has landed him a stint behind bars.
The rapper’s upcoming MTV reality show, T.I.’s Road to Redemption: 45 Days to Go, will allow viewers to see another side of T.I. as the rapper travels to schools and talks to community groups about ways to avoid his highly publicized legal drama.
T.I. pleaded guilty last year to federal weapons charges after his 2007 arrest in Atlanta just hours before appearing at the BET Hip-Hop Awards.
As part of his plea deal, the Grand Hustle Records co-CEO was ordered to complete 1,000 hours of community service before heading to prison in March.
In addition to his community service efforts, Road to Redemption will offer a look at T.I.’s search for personal redemption while working to overcome his personal demons, transform the lives of a group of at-risk teens, manage his personal life and accept going to jail in the coming weeks.
“This series reveals the unknown side of T.I.-one of the world’s greatest artists at the most precarious time in his life,” said MTV executive vice president, series development and programming Tony DiSanto. “In the face of impending incarceration, T.I. is driven to ensure others do not make the same mistakes, and our cameras document every step along this road as he impacts and changes lives for the better. It is real-time redemption.”
Road to Redemption comes amid a stellar year for T.I., who is enjoying the success of his latest album, Paper Trail.
The project, which spawned the hit singles “Whatever You Like,” “Live Your Life” and “Dead and Gone,” debuted at number one upon its first week of release last year.
The Atlanta lyricist’s good fortune continued on Sunday (February 8) as he took home a Grammy award for best rap performance by a duo or group for his Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Kanye West and M.I.A.-assisted song “Swagga Like Us.”
The release of Paper Trail will be among the highlights featured on Road to Redemption, in addition to the birth of T.I.’s sixth child.
The show, which was co-executive produced by T.I., will stay true to its name, as the title will change to reflect the amount of time left to the rapper’s sentencing.
Once T.I. completes his community service requirements, consideration will be taken which could possibly result in a reduced sentence for the entertainer.
The final episode of Road to Redemption will air shortly after T.I.’s fate is revealed.
T.I.’s Road To Redemption: 45 Days To Go will premiere at 9 p.m. ET/PT Tuesday (February 10) on MTV.
Future episodes of the series will air at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT.
