In this weeks Footage Fa Dayz, we go back in time to 1999 and check in with Newark, New Jersey bred -rapper, Redman.
Its almost hard to believe that its been almost 20 years since Redman stormed upon the scene in 1990, with his debut performance as a member of EPMDs Hit Squad on the tracks Hardcore and Brothers on My Jock.
The rapper has managed to maintain a solid, underground following during the past two decades, while dabbling in the world of pop, with artists like Christina Aguilera (“Dirrty”).
Redman and Method Man were also part of a new breed of rappers in the mid-1990s to bring Hip-Hop to the small screen, with their short-lived Method and Red TV series, which aired for one season on Fox in 2004.
Its amazing to see the consistency – and humility – of these rappers who have managed to maintain their careers for decades.
The first album went gold, the second album went gold, the third album went gold and the fourth album went platinum, Redman said. I wanna thank everyone out there for getting my s**t. Cause you know Ima bring the raucous regardless if I go wood. If I go wood Ima still bring the raucous I dont give a s**t bout the platinum s**t. I give that s**t to my n***as.
Almost 20 years later, Redman is still releasing material. He was recently on the road with Meth promoting their new album Blackout 2.
The rapper is also currently in the studio, working on material for his seventh solo album. Redman recently celebrated Def Jams 25th Anniversary during VH1s salute to the legendary record label.
Redman will perform with Method Man during Cypress Hills two-day Smoke Out festival in Southern California October 23 and 24th.
Everything I say is off the street, or about smoking, about chickens or its about straight up fucking funning and buggin. Just going by how we act, you know?
