Jay-Z and The Black Eyed Peas were the big Hip-Hop winners during the 37th annual American Music Awards, which took place tonight (November 22nd) at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.
Jay-Z and the Black Eyed Peas each won two AMA Awards. Jay-Z won for Favorite Male Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Hip-Hop album, while the Black Eyed Peas won Favorite Pop/Rock/Duo and the best Soul/R&B group.
Jay-Z, Eminem, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Timbaland and the Black Eyed Peas hit the stage during the evening, which also included come back performances featuring Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston.
Jay-Z and Alicia Keys performed together as Keys opened the set with a rendition of Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York.
The rapper, who has dubbed himself the black Frank Sinatra, performed in a white tuxedo jacket with black pants.
Eminem lost out to Taylor Swift for Artist of the Year and went home empty handed.
He performed his hit single Crack a Bottle with 50 Cent, in addition to his verse from the track Forever, which features Drake, Kanye West and Lil Wayne.
Taylor Swift won the most awards at the 37th Annual AMAs, taking home a total of five awards, edging out the late Michael Jackson, who won four posthumous awards.
Presenters included Snoop Dogg, Drake, Kid Cudi, Ne-Yo, Samuel L. Jackson and others.
