Rapper Kanye West and group the Black Eyed Peas earned 6 Grammy nominations each, it was announced tonight (December 2), during the Grammy Nominations Concert Live! – Countdown To Musics Biggest Night.”
LL Cool J hosted the one-hour special, which was broadcast live on CBS from Club Nokia.
Beyonce lead all artist with 10 nominations, while Taylor Swift followed with eight.
Kanye West, The Black Eyed Peas and Maxwell each earned six nominations while, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga and Guetta earned five nominations T-Pain, Bruce Springsteen, Keith Urban and Kings of Leon earned 4 nominations.
“The nominations this year truly reflect the talented community of music makers who represent some of the highest levels of excellence in their respective fields,” said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. “Once again, the Grammy Awards process has yielded a well-rounded and diverse group of impressive nominees across multiple genres. Coupled with the second year of our primetime nominations special, which featured stellar performances by past Grammy winners and nominees, the road to Music’s Biggest Night and the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards in January is off to an exciting start.”
The Black Eyed Peas’ The E.N.D. is up for Album of the Year and the group also earned nominations for Record of the Year, Best Pop Performance by a Duo or group with Vocals, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Dance Recording.
Kanye West earn six nominations, including Best Rap Song/Collaboration including two for Ego which features Beyonce.
West, Jay-Z and Rihanna each earned multiple nominations for the track Run This Town.
Other Hip-Hop artists nominated include Eminem, Flo Rida, Q-Tip, Mos Def, Common, T.I. and Drake.
The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards will be held on January 31st, 2010 at the Staple Center in Los Angeles.
