(AllHipHop News) Rapper Plies is the subject of a civil lawsuit over a 2006 Florida shooting inside of a nightclub that left five victims injured.

The lawsuit stems from a July 2, 2006 shooting after Plies and Baton Rouge, Louisiana rapper Lil Boosie were headlining a show at West Nightclub, in Gainesville, Florida.

As Plies performed, a dispute broke out with promoters over stage time.

Plies’ brother Ronell Lawrence Lavatte, 31 (aka Big Gates) and Tory Denard Carnegie, were accused of firing three rounds of bullets into a crowd over of 1,000 people, striking five men from Gainesville. Both men were charged with multiple counts of attempted murder, while Plies, born Algernod Lanier Washington, was charged with illegal possession of concealed weapons.

Lavatte eventually served three years in prison for his role in the shooting.

Plies pleaded no contest and was sentenced to probation. According to the Associated Press, the victims recently amended the 2008 lawsuit to include Lavatte and his Big Gates Records imprint.

The lawsuit claims Plies used the shooting to boost his credibility and profit off of their suffering, when his record sales soared.

Plies attorney dismissed the charges and said the victims’ attorneys only amended the lawsuit to gain publicity, since the lawsuit had stalled in county court.
