(AllHipHop News) Hip-Hop legends Jazzy Jay, GrandMaster Caz and artist Carlos “Mare 139” Rodriguez are teaming with a group of local business, community activists and environmental groups for the third annual GetGreen: South Bronx Earth Fest. The free, all ages event aims to promote the culture of the South Bronx, while celebrating and promoting a clean environment. The afternoon will feature family activities, entertainment and education, in addition to local performances, and an award ceremony honoring local businesses for their “greenness.“”Get Green in the South Bronx is an inspiration to someone who grew up in these once burnt out and rubble filled streets,” Mare 139 told AllHipHop.com. “Sustainability and wellness programs like this uplift the community and bring awareness to our potential role in the ‘green movement’ that is taking place.”The third annual South Bronx Earth Festival takes place on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 12pm to 4 pm at St. Mary’s Park, on St. Ann’s Ave. and 146th St Bronx NY 10455. The public is encouraged to bring old cellphones, computers, TV’s, printers, clothing and sneakers that will be used for recycling and to help reduce waste. Over 30 local businesses are participating in, or sponsoring this year’s festival. “As an artist I want to communicate this message through the youth and their hopes, Get Green is a catalyst for them to learn how to take care of themselves and the community they live in,” Mare 139 stated.
