The CIAA/MEAC basketball tournament is the only basketball event that showcases teams from Historically Black Colleges and Universities at Madison Square Garden. Doug E. Fresh, whose name inspired the “Dougie” dance craze, will host the drumlin competition portion of the basketball tournament. “I think that what the Big Apple Classic is doing to support young people getting an education is very important. Education is key. We are coming to a basketball game, but education is still the focus and I respect that,” Doug E. Fresh told AllHipHop.com. “It’s positive and it’s fun and that’s what I’m all about.” Last year’s Big Apple Classic drew over 10,000 attendees, with tickets priced at $29.50 and $54.50.The Big Apple Classic takes December 4 with rival games between Virginia State University and Virginia Union University and Hampton University and Howard University.
