(AllHipHop News) The Black Eyed Peas have emerged victorious in a copyright lawsuit against a singer who claimed that the group stole their hit song “Boom Boom Pow.”
Last week, The Peas, Interscope and others named in the lawsuit won group a summary judgment in the lawsuit, which was originally filed by Phoenix Phenom in January of 2010.
Phoenix Phenom, born Ebony Latrice Batts, claimed that the Black Eyed Peas stole her copyrighted song “Boom Dynamite,” after her track was submitted to Interscope Records.
One year later, the songwriters were shocked to hear “Boom Boom Pow,” which they claimed was too similiar to their own song “Boom Dynamite.”
The judge presiding over the case ruled that while the songs were indeed similar, they were not similar enough to grant a judgment to Phoenix Phenom.
The judge believed that a jury would conclude that the two tracks were not similar enough to warrant the lawsuit.
