Hip-Hop Rumors: The Return Of Hip-Hop Honors?

THE RETURN OF HIP-HOP HONORS?

Have you thought of Hip-Hop Honors? I have. I have long thought and heard that Hip-Hip Honors was quietly phased out after it began to seemingly lose steam. But the series was one of the mainstream main stays that paid homage to Hip-Hop’s legends. Well, I have some rumors for you here. I am hearing rumors that they are now bringing Hip-Hop Honors back in the year 2012. Here is the catch. My sources are telling me that this indeed will be the LAST Hip-Hop Honors! So, for all you rappers that feel they deserve honoring…get Fab 5 Freddy and them on the line FAST!

Do you even remember Hip-Hop Honors?

It hasn’t been that damn long…. You act like it was from 20 years ago or some shit lol. But I can dig that. It makes sense, they’ll run out of dudes to pay homage to eventually. Some of the decisions they make are pretty fishy tho. One of the worst – DRAKE covering PIMP C.. I think I died inside a little bit at that point. How much more opposite can it get?

  • that last one was like what 2 years ago??

you acting like it was 20, calm down

  • King Cold

  • I’m with this , but I fear it will turn into a promotional vehicle for the average run of the mill , doo doo butter rappers that permeate the airwaves with their self destructive , mindless drivel.

  • illseed

I think this is good as long as they dont focus on ratings — focus on hiphop

  • Bone Thugs all day! Cory Gunz – Bizzy Bone, J Cole – Wish Bone, Yelawolf – Flesh N Bone, Kendrick Lamar- Krayzie Bone, Wiz Khalifa – Layzie Bone. Come on, who wouldn’t want to hear that shit! Song of choice – East 1999!

    Hit me up El Bark!
    Might have something for you!

  • there needs to be a lot more progressive artists brought in as performers.  Was Heavy D honored before he died?  He should have been.  How about EPMD?  the Fat Boys?  and what does it say that there’s a lack of female artists to honor?  people keep pulling from the late 90s forward for newer people to honor, they haven’t even properly examined all the Golden Age artists that they should..

  • slumlord_vinny

I agree with the comments, they lost focus on the hip hop part of hit by going after the ratings. What happened to honoring Guru and Gangstarr. Das Efx, Nice and Smooth, Kid N Play, MC Shan, Too Short, MC Eiht, DJ Quick. Damn, have they got to KRS One yet. Anyway, Ima still watch the show and hope they do the right thing.

On a serious note, vote for my lil homie Astro on X-Factor. If you support hip hop you will support Astro, he is the future of this sh*++++!!!!!!!!!!!

It is time to give credit where credit is due. Schoolly D is a pioneer in Hip-Hop culture. Coming from the tough streets of West Philadelphia, Schoolly D
painted a picture of inner city life with his lyrics and heavy
basslines, drums, and scratches by DJ Code Money. I can never forget the
first time I heard “PSK” I was growing up in a Wayne,
PA. My cousin put a tape in and this sound came out that was unique from
what everyone else was doing at the time. Imagine from early in
1984-1985 Crack Cocaine hit the inner cities of America. When Schoolly D asked the question “PSK
is making that Green People always say what the hell does that mean?”
If you where in the know of the criminal underworld of Philadelphia you
know it stood for “Park Side Killers”. Park Side was a notorious drug area at that time in the 80’s (David Ruffin of the Temptations overdosed around 52nd and Parkside). Schoolly D’s
sound was booming down every block from New York, the Dirty South (via
my cousin taking a tape on a family reunion one year) and the West
Coast. He was really the first rapper outside of New York City to have
national exposure. It was on West Coast in which Schoolly D’s influence first could be heard; if you think I am making this up go check out Ice-T’s new book “ICE”. If you listen to the cadence of “PSK” and Eazy-E’s “Boyz N Da Hood” you will see more evidence to support my case for Schoolly D’s
to be inducted into the VH1 hip-hop honors. I am looking for people who
are down to campaign for Schoolly D to get his proper respect in from
the mainstream because I think most rappers would still sound like RUN-DMC if it wasn’t for Schoolly D.
