Pharrell Williams Records “I Am Other” Theme With HMI Orchestra

PHARRELL RECORDS WITH THE HENRY MANCINI ORCHESTRA!

(AllHipHop News) Footage was released earlier today (January 15) on Neptunes fan site TheNeptunes.org of Grammy Award-winning producer Pharrell Williams recording with the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music’s H.M.I. Orchestra, on a new theme titled “I Am Other.”

Williams, who hired the all-student Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra after a recommendation from legendary producer and composer Quincy Jones, recorded the “I Am Other” theme last September.

He composed the mixed-genre orchestral work—which features soft and ethereal atmospheres, contrasted with fortissimo brass themes and driving rhythms—to explore a different side of his musical creativity.

He also encouraged his Hip-Hop fan base to expand their musical horizons.

The theme was recorded at the University of Miami’s Gusman Concert Hall and was orchestrated and conducted by Shelly Berg with the assistance of Paul Griffith, Director of Recording Services at the Frost School of Music, who acted as the session’s recording engineer.
