Hip-Hop Rumors: Swizz Beatz Gets Kanye, Diddy and Will.i.am In Trouble??!!!

Swizz Beatz is reportedly getting his celebrity friends in hot water with their music label over their participation in a promo video for his website Mega-Upload. Wow, who knew Swizz was involved with Mega-Upload???

Apparently, Swizzy is the CEO of the file sharing site that allows people to easily share large media files. The catch is, lots of people use Mega-Upload to share stolen music and the music industry has been fighting against file sharing, accusing the services Mega-Upload offers of supporting piracy.

The NY Post’s Page Six is reporting that Swizzy convinced Diddy, Kanye West, and Will.i.am into promoting Mega-Upload by appearing in a “Mega Song” video promoting the site’s file sharing capabilities. Universal Music Group didn’t like that too much, and they issued a “take-down notice” to YouTube, saying the artists’ performances were unauthorized.

Check out the “Mega Upload” video below:

Mega-Upload fired back with a lawsuit against Universal to stop it from blocking distribution of the video. A Mega rep told Page Six: “We have never received any word that any artist has [individually] filed a take-down . . . [we have] legally binding agreements with the performers that appear in the video . . . They promised that they had the rights to enter into that agreement and it’s not interfering with any third-party rights.”’

If Diddy, Kanye and Will.I.Am participated in the video of there own free will, does the label have the right to sue Mega-Upload for using their likeness? The Mega-Upload song is cool too, very catchy!

Ha Swizzy found a way to capitalize off pirated music before the music industry did. LOL #ClassicJayZMove!!!

  • Swiss Beatz is not the boss of Mega Upload. He is just helping with marketing. The owner is Kim Schmitz from Berlin Germany, who currently runs the company in Hong Kong. He’s the white guy in the Mega Upload Video. Please get your info right before writing anything.

some on man…all the good content on this site and you gonna say please get your info right before writing anything…hardly a major fail in this story

      • That doesn’t excuse them for not fact checking. Then again, this is the rumors section we’re talking about. Not exactly the best track record.

        Negro please,

This site content is full of lies, gossip, and wrong information all the time.
The writers, dont even know shet about hip hop.
Just look@ the young joc article.

These writers are not only lazy, they dont care about the craft.

    • There is a difference between “boss,” owner and CEO. Swizz’s involvement in the company seems to be relatively new and all the site info is not up to date on their site. he is an executive over there. As far as the facts, this all is accurate as anybody knows at the moment. I thought this story was particularly interesting because of the uproar over SOPA and general file sharing and artists. Seems like the artists are siding with the music game’s enemy right now.

      • Chuck, I was wrong and I have no problem to admit it. I saw it on Wikipedia and on Megauploads Site that Kazeem “Swizz” Dean is indeed the CEO of Megaupload. At least officially.Magaupload is an interesting move for Kim (Kim Dotcom)  Schmitz. He is like one of the most controversial figures of the then German new economy.

not a lawyer but a law student here. I think it depends on what kind of deal these artists had with the label. If the artists have contracted their right to use their publicity, then the label could go against anyone who uses the artists publicity to promote product/services without the label’s permission. It’s like an artist that does not negotiate upfront to own the rights to his own damn song, they could not use it for other purposes without the lablels permission. It is really sad especially in hip hop, as the the artist, many times, will end up having to pay for a “licencing” fee for his/her own damn songs LOL niggas are for real out here, if you contract your publicity or other rights, you basically not the owner of it and cannot authorize its use. That’s why 360 deals are very dangerous as they take away almost all your rights..shout to LUPE lol
