Hip-Hop Rumors: J.Cole Says Too Many Rappers “Fighting For Attention” On Twitter

Roc Nation artist J.Cole recently did an interview with Bootleg Kev of Las Vegas’ Hot 97.5, and has spoken out about his dislike for rappers over-sharing and “fighting for attention” on Twitter. Check out what he said below:

“I’m not on Twitter no more, I’m not doing it and I’m not going to. I’m sitting and on watching all these artists who I respect — some of them are big artists — on Twitter fighting for attention. Every tweet is like, I’m looking for attention. Retweet me! It comes from this place of fear, like I don’t want people to forget about me. But really your body of work speaks for you, so it’s doing work even when you’re not knowing it. But because people ain’t talking about you on Twitter or your mixtape ain’t trending, you feel a certain kind of way. But when it’s my time, I’m gonna load up all my clips and I’m gonna empty ‘em out.”

I think J.Cole may have a point.

for once somebody with some damn truth!

  • nino970

yeah he do have  a point but like anything do you blame guns for killing people?  or  do you blame people for killing  people if you blame guns then guns should be on trial then stupid i   know but twitter was meant just like everything to be used in the right way tweet your album comming out tweet your next movie promotion things like that but when  theses celebrities start  using it  in  the  wrong then it becomes a problem  like everything else

Dude with the long hair on TMZ said it best.  “You hear all this hype about Twitter.  Then you get on there and you’re like this is it?”

  • I RESPECT IT 1000%

  • Jahb1911

    Real talk..

  • i agree

  • Negro Peligro

Man the world has changed. You gotta stay relevant.  You can act like Twitter ain’t it. But if that artist connects with his fans on personal level that’s one less fan for you. Game albums ain’t doing nothing his twitter buzzing. He can sell that influence to record companies. You have understand the business Twitter is like Jesse Jackson using black people to sell to Walmart. When your marketing yourself to other companies their going to ask how many twiggers you got. Oh you got a movement I’m going to support your mixtape.

  • Twitter aka the place where spineless humans gather to talk about successful humans.

  • TheReaEmajor_on_twitter

J is makin alot of sense here……….but im about to drop an even bigger bomb…….These niggaz aint gone change.

  • TruthSerum

If your a decent artist you shouldnt have to rely on social media to keep you relevant. Cats like Em & Jay dont even use there twitters, they have people they pay to use it for them every once in a while as needed. I understand having a twitter account and using it here and there to make people aware you have an impending release but If you really have to sit there and tweet day in & Day out about how dope you are, chances are your not as dope as you think. Thats why you know Micheal Jordan was the greatest Player Ever, because you never had to hear it from his own mouth, he let his work speak for him

Plus, twitter & things of that nature give fans this entitlement complex, people get way too disrespectful on twitter, people on there tweet more about celebrities they hate then the ones they like, I wouldnt sit there and take lip from some douchebag 1000 miles away from me who has to pick a fight with someone they saw on TV because there a bunch of scared little rabbits who are too weak hearted to go outside and find a real fight, getting all hostile & ranting about people who are doing things they were never capable of doing. There’s alot of musicians I dont like at all but I would just as soon commit suicide before I got to the point where my life was so empty I had to harass them to make myself feel useful, GTFOH

    • nino970

      your right

  • Jay

& this NEW GENERATION you HAVE to stay on you’re P’S & Q’S

you  can not make few songs here and there then wait months years later like back in the day

these kids..young adults WANTS MUSIC 24/7 or else their gonna push you to the side and say you’re old news.. overrated etc

people loved drake when he came out but because he did not drop a album til next year they started changing their opinions

theirs no REAL fans no more..just people acting like kids in the candy store they want more

    • wow lol so true i feel the same way 🙂
