“There’s some shady people up here, this is not Atlanta.”

For the past few months, we’ve been reporting on Spike Lee’s new joint, Red Hook Summer, and today the first trailer for the two-time Academy Award-nominated director’s new flick has hit the ‘net.

Red Hook Summer, which is set to hit theaters on August 10, stars Clarke Peters, Jules Brown, Toni Lysaith, Nate Parker, James Ransone, and Thomas Jefferson Byrd.

The film will also feature Spike portraying the classic character of Mookie from his 1989 film Do the Right Thing. Red Hook Summer is also the latest entry in Lee’s “Chronicles of Brooklyn”, which also features such films as: She’s Gotta Have It, Do the Right Thing, Crooklyn, Clockers and He Got Game.

Following the release of Red Hook Summer in August, Lee will begin production on the American-language remake of the critically acclaimed 2003 South Korean film, Oldboy, which is set to star Josh Brolin (Men In Black III), Sharlto Copley (District 9) and Elizabeth Olson (Silent House).

Check out the trailer for Red Hook Summer and the film’s official plot below:

Red Hook Summer tells the story of Flik Royale (Jules Brown), a sullen young boy from middle-class Atlanta who has come to spend the summer with his deeply religious grandfather, Bishop Enoch Rouse (Clarke Peters), in the housing projects of Red Hook. Having never met before, things quickly get off on the wrong foot as Bishop Enoch relentlessly attempts to convert Flik into a follower of Jesus Christ. Between his grandfather’s constant preaching and the culture shock of inner-city life, Flik’s summer appears to be a total disaster–until he meets Chazz Morningstar (Toni Lysaith), a pretty girl his age, who shows Flik the brighter side of Brooklyn. Through her love and the love of his grandfather, Flik begins to realize that the world is a lot bigger, and perhaps a lot better, than he’d ever imagined.
