Rappers Win Big At 2012 BET Awards

(AllHipHop News) Hip-Hop music was front and center last night (July 1) at the 2012 BET Awards in Los Angeles.

Jay-Z and Kanye West snagged Best Group as “The Throne,” while Drake won Best Male Hip-Hop Artist.

Drake’s Young Money labelmate Nicki Minaj won Best Female Hip-Hop artist, while Wale and Miguel’s track “Lotus Flower Bomb ” won Best Collaboration.

Jay-Z and Kanye’s video”Otis” took home Video of the Year, while Jay-Z’s wife Beyoncé won Director of the Year with Alan Ferguson, her creative collaborator for the “Party” and “Dance For You” videos.

Detroit rapper Big Sean won New Artist of the Year, while Diggy Simmons took home the Young Stars award.

Other winners included UK rapper Wretch 32, Chris Brown, Serena Williams, Kevin Hart, and Kevin Durant.

Whitney Houston was honored in a moving tribute by her mother, Cissy Houston, Marian Carey, and other friends and family during the live show, which, during other portions, was marred by obscenities that were constantly bleeped out.

Performers included Brandy, Monica, G.O.O.D. Music, Rick Ross, Usher, Nicki Minaj, and Chris Brown.

I Didn’t Even Watch The Awards Because I Knew What They Were Going To Be…… The Same Ole Same Ole. Mostly All Awards Shows Are Total B.S. But Especially The BET Awards. They Have Become A  Mockery And Do Great Injustice To Black Music. One Didn’t Need To Be Nostradamus To Figure Out Who Was Going To Win The Awards.

The Radio Airwaves Are Saturated With The Same Songs Over And Over Again. The Thing Is Though That The Same Songs That They Play Are These Same Artists That Won These BET Awards, And It Is Not Because Of How Great Their Songs Are But Because Of How Much Power, Money And Influence These Artists Have Or Should I Say That Their Record Companies Have!!!

DRAKE Is Horrible To Me NICKI MINAJ Is Horrible To Me, BEYONCE Nowadays Is Horrible To Me. Her Whole Style Has Changed Up, She Is Basically POP, With No Soul. She Will Just Put An Occasional Emcee On Her Songs To Appeal To The Streets. Jay Z And Kanye West Had A Decent Album And Otis Is Cool, But Everyone Knew They Were Going To Win. I Do Not Even Know Who All They Were Up Against In Those Categories, BUT They Could Have Went Against ELVIS Or Michael Jackson And They STILL Would Have Won…….. Because BEYONCE Had A Baby Which RULED And Still RULES The HEADLINES!!!!! SMH

First of All: Whoever wrote this..did not watch the show.  That show was embarassing.

Secondly, when it was not embarassing it was running promotions.

It was not an award show, it was a trade show. As for Rap representation: Hell no!

Not one rap act had any stage presence.

The production transistion was embarassing. the obvious foot control for Kanye and that entire transistion was wack.

Technically, though Frankie Beverly had no voice and they had to call out Joe and Tyrese to save the number…it did better than all the rap acts combined, why? Because of knowing how to perform. Because of having content.

The good moments were few and far inbetween. The awards themselves were mostly harried and for the souless purpose of the same tired acts  wack.

The tributes to the lost ones was highly insulting.

Another thing… How do you say someone is going to be in a show, only to be in the audience? Beyonce. What, the Throne is a group..I was the last to know, but the first to call B’llsh^t when Jay-Z and Kanye got “nomination” for Best Group…and then that stupid a$$ staged acceptance speech by Kanye…set-up only for Jay-Z to dramatically come out….because he was held up in traffic.
No. Hip Hop would die if we all invested in what is supposedly the elite.goal/measure of perfection. It would die a shameful and nameless death. F’ck the front row players and the head nodders.

Stick to form and skill and kill the noise about Hip Hop took front and center at the BET Awards show. If that is what you AHH is promoting then you fell Hip Hop because you are not brave enough to be an authority and call sh^t sh^t.

Not gonna lie, this is the difference between the east verses the west.
In the east you work and pray nobody bites your style and make money on it before you do.
Then once you make it then the hip hop media will never call you out as long as you make the right associations along the way.

In the west you just have to watch yo a$$ and pay attention to that contract. If somebody bites they get called out, if you are wack..you get called out, if you don’t make it to the major leagues …you get on your local hustle and invest in your immediate community to form new talents.

Sometimes AHH you are the most dangerous site because of your oversight.

You got them ad checks to think about and you cannot afford to call out your east coast associates. You can ring shots at everybody else unless they are under the umberella of certain labels from the east
You do your best to balance the horror that is happening in rap, but..but…you are not taking authority.

These labels and artist need your press power. Not the other way around.Your Day Role is the most powerful thing and is changes the value of the very dollars that these folks claim to make. Turn it around already. Show your damn worth. Be the biggest critic and challenge the heavies and promote the true up and coming. We all here watching and you been sittin’ with one finger in the ear. You just short of not valid of talking any social issue until you get your house in order. You a mad player in this. Stop being a stooge and take authority.
