Hip-Hop Rumors: Aaliyah Fans Upset By Drake Helming Project, Lash Out On Twitter

So, by now you’ve all heard what is allegedly the first single from the Aaliyah posthumous album. If not, you can check it out below:

The single, called “Enough Said,” was produced by Drake’s producer, Noah “40” Shebib, who is also said to have leaked the record. The project is being helmed by Drake and 40, and has allegedly received the blessing from Aaliyah’s estate.

Unfortunately for Drake, many hardcore Aaliyha fans believe that Timbaland and Missy should be helming the project, not him. Check out some of the backlash the record is receiving on Twitter:

Wow, that last tweet was pretty funny, and probably true! So, how do Timbaland and Missy feel about Drake producing the project? Check out what Timbo recently told Power 105.1 below:

Timbaland

Timbaland

“I know they trying to drop some Aaliyah records, but if he do it, it should be with me and Missy. The proper way for him to do that would be for me, him and Missy to be all on the record. But to put it on his record, would just not be right.”

It looks like Drake is going full steam ahead with the project, without the help of Timbaland or Missy. What do you think about that?

Sidenote, Drizzy recently inked another tattoo dedicated to the late singer Aaliyah. Check out the tattoo below, which is of the number 416, Toronto’s area code, as well as 116, which is Aaliyah’s birthday.

In related news, this may come as a surprise, but YMCMB artist Drake has not finished high school. The rapper recently revealed to Toronto Now, that he plans to go back to school to earn his diploma. Check out what he said below:

“I’m actually spending my summer graduating high school. That’s my main focus after OVO Fest. I only have one credit left, and I’m really excited about that.”

Good for Drake!

I understand how people feel about Drake taking the lead on this project, but try to be objective and hear me out. (side note: not a Drake fan) Okay, so if Missy and Timbo produced Baby girls album it really wouldn’t do well as far as sales. People my age would buy it AFTER we paid the mortgage, power bill, cable bill, cell phone bill, car payment, car insurance, health insurance bill, put money in the IRA account and buy back to school supplies. Aaliyha would gain no NEW fans under the age of 25, therefore it would get no burn on the radio. The only way for this project to have any chance of going Gold is to let someone like Drake do it, so it can get the attention of a younger demographic and possibly gain a new and younger fan base. I do agree with Timbo that Drake should at least reach out to him and Missy even if it’s on the low. But to all Aaliyha fans, if you really want to hear her voice and give the younger listeners a chance to hear her voice, you need to give a little leeway. (sorry)

    • Yea its me

Did you not read what Timbo said? He said he (Timbo), Missy and DRAKE should all do it together not just Drake alone. So therefore it will still sale because Drake would still be apart of it.

      • $28825362

        Thank you Pretty_Bitch
        #FAIL

    • KingsCountyCrooklyn

I’m sure Tim & Missy would have younger talent performing along with the voice of Aaliyah to ensure its commercial success, but can drakes crew mix it up on the production tip with out everything sounding the same and no auto-tunes?

      • $28825362

You have a valid point about younger talent performing on the album. As far as the production; to be honest I think that’s what the kids WANT to hear. Nothing really complex. I think todays youth want to hear a more… I don’t want to say dumb down musical production, but rather… for lack of a better term… simple. And when I say kids, I mean Jr. High up to Senior college students. If you think they really want to hear a Timbo and Missy produced track, tell Tim and Missy to test the waters and see how well it sales. I’m sorry it won’t. Kids today… their ears just don’t have that hip hop musical complexity.

    • immackulate

yeah THEY thought drake was gonna bring in some sales but i be damn if these tweets and various responses prove different

    • Tony G.

      Totally disagree with u bro….

    • FakirWise

So you’re saying, it wouldn’t appeal to the younger demographic if Tim and Missy headed the project and just featured Drake on it? I think it’s safe to say that would have had a better outcome than this…

      • $28825362

I could be totally wrong and off base, but I don’t know if the younger demographic has even heard Timmy and Missy really do HIP HOP. I think the young kids now hear Timbo and think “dance music”. I don’t know do you even think Drake could handle a Timbo track? I don’t. Plus Missy would just crush him bar for bar, so every song would have to be redone so Drake wouldn’t get mad. Look we both know Drake is soft and Missy is a beat and is not going to hold back if she on a Timbo track. I just see it being a problem. Maybe just give it to Drake and lets see what happens. All we heard was one song

  • King Cold

I agree with Timbaland. Why the hell should Drake even have permission to produce an aaliyah album in the first place? Family and friends should only be involved. And its kinda creepy how obsessed he is with her

  • Nemesis_Enforcer

that beat is sooooooooooooooooo wack! 40 wouldn’t even have a career if Drake didnt blow. Dude’s beats are so weak (except the Alicia Keys record)

    • $28825362

Man, I thought it was just me. I kept waiting for the beat to drop. Then I was like… oh, this is it. Maybe he was going for a 90’s type feel. (yea, I know… I’m making excuses)

  • 2012Industry1

I don’t think people realize that this is not actually Drake’s decision to have them involved. I’m more than positive that Blackground would have gone to MIssy & Tim a long time ago with this music if it was all good between them. Y’all forget that Missy and Tim wasn’t that present on Aaliyah’s last album and the new songs that was on her Compilation that spawned ” I MIss You”. Also, the song is actually pretty good, so don’t hate for hate’s sake, really think about WHY Tim and Missy isn’t involved. Drake has a great relationship with Tim…that was a Blackground decision.

    • brotha_man

who evers decision it is it is a bad one…real talk

  • So.

  • that is not production…the simplest beat ive ever heard

  • ONE

I dislike this dude even more now

  • Sosa_Limone

wasnt aaliyah signed to timberlands label? wouldnt he have the rights to release the music like suge and puff had the rights, along with big and pacs estate to release pac and bigs posthumous albums?

    • Celz

Depends on the contract.. Aaliyah was about to marry Dame Dash from Rocafella; so he might have laced her. And Tim and Missy really looked at her as fam so they probably gave her a decent deal. Also if she just resigned she would have had alot more juice, she was getting movie deals and this was when records were still selling so they could have gave her a great deal and still made lots of money.

      • immackulate

man you dont know shyt … AALIYAH was signed to her uncle’s label BARRY Hanker-or-whatever-the-hell BLACKGROUND same label she was on since after 1 IN A MILLION dropped –

      • Celz

-“wasnt aaliyah signed to timberlands label?”
        -” Depends on the contract.”

You apparently can’t read and I’ve never been one to stalk singers so I really couldn’t tell you who was on what label. My point was you can’t “guess” who has the rights to her music.

      • immackulate

if you REALLY couldnt tell “anybody” what label she was on – even in the information age while your logged into a cpu w/o accessing GOOGLE (dummy) than why didnt you just say
“HELL IF I KNOW WHAT LABEL SHE WAS ON” than beat around the bush or speculate like you but you wasnt sure

      • Celz

        Try and follow

Sosa said – “wouldnt he have the rights to release the music like suge and puff had the rights”

Celz said – “Depends on the contract..”

My point is I don’t need to know what label she was on because that doesn’t determine ownership unless the Beatles were signed to Micheal Jackson.. lmao… Stop trying to be the smartest nicca on the net it’s not a good look. My whole comment was saying you can’t guess who owns her shyt based on the past.

      • immackulate

man give it a rest … and when is BEING SMART a bad thing myG?
we on 2 different wave lengths – im wavy and you just S-CURL

      • Sosa_Limone

i feel you…lol dame dash… this nigga fell off… he went from owning the dopest label in the late 90’s and early 2000’s (maybe 2nd dopes next to ruff ryders) and dating one of the baddest and classiest chicks in the game to being broke.. talk abotu a fall from grace… like jay said “due to the circumstances, (dame) should be in bellvue”…part of me feels bad for homey, but the other part remembers seeing him on his reality show on mtv and i remember how ignorant he was and how he played blind fury in that rap contest.

      • immackulate

i bet dame could still buy 20 Sosa_Limone’s with no hesitation

  • MadVillain

i agree with every1 in the sense that the ONLY people that should be thinking about even doing this are Timbo & Missy. HOWEVER Tims sound and style has changed ALOT over the passed 12 years and for him to produce this now it will sound nowhere near as good as it would of sounded back in the day. now he just makes wack ass electro dance pop-hop beats for mainstream artists. if this is gonna be done its gotta be done right with his old-school sound, if not then dont bother doing it AT ALL.

    • true indeed! at least let Timbo exec produce it! this is the man who gave her her own identity & sound he has a better idea what she would like and what fits…not this 40 crap…that shit is like a blank sheet of paper lol! #QUASIMOTO

    • omd0

you sound like a simpleton ….timbaland is a producer … producers never “loose” their sound …they re-invent it ….shows how much you really know about ANYTHING musical …. ofcourse the album (if produced by timbaland or missy ) would not sound the same as the late 90’s or early 2000 aaliyah we all know and love …. but the sound will be a much crisper and devoloped sound …there would be no need to worry …with this 40 guy ..there is alot to worry about …simply because one 1) his production is very same-ish …like there is no dynamics to his production 2) it looks hella bad just for the fact we ALL know he is drakes producer …so it looks like he done a friend a favour and 3) in all honesty …. his production kind of sucks … its not moving …bar a few tracks ive heard that he’s produced which i thought “hey , this is kinda chill” …the rest kinda does SUCK badly .

  • Oknas

drake a corny ass nigga fo real tho, no hating

  • CanYouAllHearMe

I heard that her family have said they are not behind or supporting this album. Looks to me like the record label wanna make some money and thought Drake is real popular and a stan.

  • 2twelve

People don’t understand, as an artist, as a human being, people’s goals are to leave a legacy, leave a mark in this world sothat people want to remix their music and dig up unreleased tracks to educate others of the talent that they once were, stop saying “she’s dead stop using her shit” cause she didn’t make music to die and suddenly be off limits and forgotten.

At the end of the day, it would bring in new fans and alienate the millions of fans she already has. I’m a big Aaliyah fan and I thought the track was garbage. Other than her vocals, it didn’t sound like Aaliyah at all. This track is trash and then with Drake cursing all over this record. And I disagree that it won’t sell. After she died, all 3 of her albums including I Care 4 U did extremely well. It’s a fact that when celebrities pass away, they receive more fans and more people buy their material. She doesn’t need Drake to get sales. I think it’s disgusting that they are exploiting a deceased person for profit. Instead of making an album that fans will enjoy, her label is worried about capitalizing off of her death and making her more marketable to younger generation. She’s no longer living so it’s not going to help her sell out arenas and get her more television and movie opportunities. Next thing you know, there will be Tupac, Biggie, and Aaliyah holograms running around. If I buy this trash with Aaliyah’s name and voice on it, it would only be to show some support. But most likely if all the tracks sound like this, I’m not buying. Rest in peace baby girl…!! Your fans love you!

    • johnblacksad

      ooh… Sabrina!

Let’s play hooouuse… *in my DPG stance*

    • Slaughtr

      i agree with that.

  • Guest

no hating as well here, i’m a fan of 40 as a producer but this could have been so much times better, especially at the hey hey hey part shit couldve been another classic
    instead we get this.

I actually like the beat and idea but ,very weak drums ,pretty hollow to me…maybe cause its leaked its unfinished, or maybe he kept it simple for the majority of the people, but i would’ve doubled my effort alot if i could produce for a legendary rnb star like Aaliyah and i would took days for it… the beat sounds like it could be made in a hour, i could make this within a hour (without the acapella)

  • ONE

Aaliyah looks a little pissed off in that picture

  • just heard it…my 1st impression? it sounds cool for what it is… I guess…I think it would be hot with or without drake on it, it sounds like a throwaway beat! it lacks emotion for a supposed r&b track….which aaliyah was not about…and theres no real direction to it…drake sounds so fuckin wack lol I mean aint nothing to hate about, he’s comes off like a lame without even trying! …idk…these new guys are willing to adapt to industry politics because they have no ethics or morals elsewhere within the culture! If they even look at this shit as a culture!…and that way of thinking influences fans to agree with greedy corporate decisions even if its against their own interest! like the rick ross name situation…ok dude u won in court, so what! just to keep it all the way 100 give that man back his name and K.I.M…ricky rozay aint a bad name for a blatant fraud…drake get timbo on the track off GP! You dont even KNOW her or her taste! R Kelly devante swing and timbabland INVENTED aaliyahs sound…nuff said…fuck what these greedy execs pump your head up with, its just NOT a good look to your brand, who cares about your money, you got yourself looking like a fool…. what yall gonna do make her whole album on that emo 40 shit? plug in a drake verse then present it to the youth who eat it up cause they have no clue what good hip hop/ r&b music is either way? cmon man! shorty was a SUPERSTAR sold millions of records, and here you come leeching off her her memory cause you got some lame tats…which btw shows just how corny the dude is…ok RIP and all that…but looks like aaliyah tats are the ONLY tats he got! really?he lucky he got all these broads fooled…awww drakes finishing high school AND he dropped a new aaliyah record…lemme guess you cant hate on that? smh that mentality is crippling OUR music man…4/10 cause aaliyah voice is and always be flawless…if this what u got in mind drake your better off doing a mixtape cause this aint enough…

    • Julian Cotton

      in 2chains voice “true”

  • Tim also stated awhile ago after Aaliyah died that he lost ALOT of his creative juices after she died. Which is true isn’t it? Tim was the hottest producer up until aaliyah died he DID lose his sense of self and went underground and everything. Missy and Timb split not too long ago along with ginuwine after Aaliyahs death. Nobody was the same. Missy took off success but still and timb has a few producer hits. NOBODY knows Aaliyah like them and Drake (the fan) took that unreleased music and RAN with it. I’m a true Aaliyah fan and the beginning with that SHITTY ass beat killed it for me. Anybody who’s listened to aaliyah KNOWS her beats were the SHIT, you cant deny. I do NOT support Drake anymore after this bullshit.

    • Norrin Radd

Timbaland did not go underground fam, he made hits after aaliyah passed…

  • if he a huge fan then hed know timbo HAS to be included. Drake emo. Drake lame.

  • whys he keep saying whats up over her singing… yikes…its gonna be a long emo filled fall to the bottom for the canadian soap opera homo.

  • nothinlessdenSour

ALOT OF YALL SOUND LIKE HATERS FOR REAL THO…WHAT DID DRAKE TO YOU YALL….IF TIMBALAND AND MISSY REALLY WANTED TO DO IT, THEY WOULDVE DONE IT YEARS AGO,,,RIP

    • Speaker_of_Truth89

It’s not about Drake. It’s about Aaliyah. Doesn’t sound like an Aaliyah record.

    • FakirWise

God forbid you be a longtime fan of someone and voice an opinion about the direction this new material is headed considering it’s coming from somone who had nothing to do with her career.
I guess that stands as hate…
Can you get confirmation from either the aforementioned that they would have done it years ago?
Who gives birth to people who think like that?

      • nothinlessdenSour

I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE MUFUCKAS WHO HATIN ON DA NIGGA…I DONT PERSONALLY LISTEN TO ALOT OF HIS SHIT I WAS JUST POINTING OUT SHIT…AND YES LIKE I SAID, IF TIMBALAND AND MISSY *REALLY* WANTED TO DO IT, THEY WOULDVE BEEN DID IT…SO YOUR SAYING EVEYBODY WHO REMIXED OR USED BIGGIES VOICE ON A SONG SHOULD HAVE OF HAD DIDDY PRODUCE IT????

aaliyah wouldnt fuk wit nobody outside r kelly, timbo and missy. what made aaliyah a great artist was she had her own sound thanks to kellz, timbo, and missy….not Drake sanging azz

  • Negro Peligro

I told you he was going to ruin it with them Karoke beats. THIS NEEDED SOME MID 90’S changing faces. I DON’T CARE WHAT NOBODY SAY RKELLY AND TIMBO should just brought this to a whole nother level .

    • verywellingdowd

True. People forget that R Kelly and Aaliyah had some classic joint also. R is needed, Missy and Tim are needed.
As far as Drake; I’d take wack ass Magoo rapping on an Aaliyah song before I’d accept Drake.

  • World b0$$

Drake is a sucka ass haven nigga……but i love Aaliyah’s voice on anything and I’m actually happy he’s able to bring her back to life in a more modern day sound. It’s like the content is timeless so all she needs is up to date beats and her legacy lives on so i respect it like i respect his music production. i just don’t respect his individual content, its all about tryna bag other niggas girls using the sucka ass sensitive nigga approach knowing he out for the same thing he claiming guys is so wrong for the wait they treating they girl. just some ol rest haven for hoes type shit i could never respect and alot of his shit sound monotonous and repetitive like Officer Rick y shit also does…fuck it tho you simple minded fans in the audience is half to blame cause ya’ll so easily ammused. But anyway if he was a real nigga he would just collab wit Missy and Tim out of respect. Even if he still Executive produced it since he did NOT come up wit the idea first but was the quickest to act on it and has the resources to acquire her catalogue.

  • HipHopStalker

Drake is an attention whore just like Lil Wayne. What does he think because he was a fan he has the right to release any unreleased material by her and jump on the track ? think of her fans and her fans don’t want that shit so if your not thinking about her fans your not thinking about her legacy because her fans were the world to her.If your not thinking of the fans your just thinking of yourself and just trying to be in the spotlight even more but this will be viewed in a very negative way. All attention isn’t good attention. Even The-Dream fell back on that idea of re-creating Aaliyah’s music so do the same and keep making corny so called hiphop or R&B which makes real R&B cringe.Either let Timbaland and missy, tweet handle the project and at best let you do one track or don’t ruin her music. She deserved better stalker.

  • BruceLeRoyGlow

This nigga has to be a down low necrophiliac

  • NcHawk17

I think people find any reason to hate on Drake. The guy is one of the most successful hip hop artists to make it out of Canada. OVO has a very drink wine and relax in your back yard with your crew feeling. That’s why they did this, for her music to turn into the shock value 6 would be more than disrespectful. People hate change, and give it a chance.

Imma say it. His p$$-A$$ debut this, illegal mess on her brothers birthday…like dude is not a fan he just one of them m’f’kkas, that do ish like that. Hell, I’m a damn fan since ’94. That was the homie. Drake ain’t got no soul so you just have to hit’em in the money. Don’t download this mess. Get up and go support you local record store and buy you an Aaliyah album.

  • toreal

Maybe Timberland should have done this along time ago.

  • Slaughtr

So that’s why he sounds like he’s five years old.

  • If Aaliyah’s estate supports the project then that is what should be respected. Who knows if there are issues with Timbaland and Missy and the estate. Maybe they feel the two made enough money off of Aaliyah. It’s cool to have opinions but I say respect the family. They know better. But…. I’m not feeling this song production at all.

    Follow me on Twitter: @A2ThaR

  • Last tweet was mad funny!

  • Sofiya

I think what Drake has done is sick. His obsession with Aaliyah is beyond creepy, to the point where he has imagined a relationship with this person. Who was not really a person to him but an image/a persona/an artist, just as she is with us, because no matter how much we love her, we could never love her or know her the way her family does. Does Drake think he loves her more than her own family members? Who the hell does he think he is to profit of a woman who has passed away, a woman he does not know and who may not have wanted to work with him had she been alive.

As for her family, I just have a feeling they couldn’t access her material and Drake could afford to do so better. And if that is the case then that just makes it worse that he’s making money off their daughter and sister. It’s vile. I’ve always been ambivalent about Drake but now I strongly dislike him, despite how happy I was to hear Aaliyah again. The circumstances for it are all wrong. Not only that but to use it to take a diss at Chris Brown is immature and taints the whole thing. Don’t get me wrong, I thought her voice was beautiful, but the song was crappy and his “rapping” had nothing to do with what she was singing.
