Nas and Jay Electronica in the studio

Hip-Hop Rumors: Stic.Man Of Dead Prez Speaks On Nas Ghostwiting Rumors!

Dead prez’s Stic.Man was named in a tweet by writer Dream Hampton for ghostwriting Nas’s last album. Well, that didn’t take long and now Stic.Man has spoken up and when so far as to call her a “hater.” [READ: Nas Denies Using Ghostwriters!] He later took that back, but he didn’t mince words about the assertion that he and Jay Electronica ghostwrote Nas’s last album. I think that in the interest of being objective, it is clear that he worked with Nas in some way and form. But that’s with ANY artist you can name in the game. OK, maybe not Canibus, but he’s not exactly in the game either. Anyway, Dreamy H. has her share of old rumors swirling too. Some stuff is better left unsaid, especially on twitter.

Check out what Stic said.

Thanks, Stic.Man!

Sounds like a confirmation without trying to throw Nas under the bus. He admits to “helping” but doesn’t go into details. Still, I need more proof or for someone to say “SIKE”. This is not what I want to hear about Nas. His words have always been his strength. Where others have tried to diss his business, one thing that no one could take from him was his words.

If someone is sitting in a room while Nas is writing lyrics and he ask you if this line or that line sounds tight, that is not ghostwriting. It’s sitting in a room while Nas is writing rhymes.

    • RichFromBX

exactly, at most dude probably said something like “yo, try flipping that line like this…” which means that every MC out there uses or has used a ghostwriter…

    • Apollo Showtime

Yeah, you may get songwriting credit for input, but not jottin’ down someone’s whole verse.

  • VABaller

I like how he answers the question by saying Nas is one of the most prolific lyricist to do it. Instead of saying a simple no. lmao

    • hes being humble you guys every heard of that word and what it means to be humble ?? also when you producing and creating music before one lyric is written you do know that also consider “writing” …. every beat has a written form …. music is writing … and if nas needed help with penning verses he would of brought in Dead Prez as a group … because Stic Man is the production half of Dead Prez … M1 wasnt present because all he does is write verses …. If nas needed help with penning verse M1 would of been in the building …!!!!! sometimes folks gotta use common sense sometimes … @ the most stic man assisted with hook creation on the songs he produced and prob inspired nas on how to kick his verses off ….. we aint dealing with Will Smith here … this is Nas Escobar !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😉

      • Jeffrey Pulliam

        Very well said!!

  • BulldogCG

artists collaborate in any art form, and artist these MC’s are. No story here, Hate.

  • God Body

Simple things really. Nas said it himself he takes his inspiration from things he’s heard conversation with friends what he see on the TV or hears on the radio. It’s feasible to say he hired Stick Man and Jay Elect to convey a certain vibe in the studio while he found his muse and needed their artistic confirmation that he was going in the right direction. You have no idea what artist do to find their muse. Even if it’s just having a certain person vibing with them in the room but not actually writing a single line, this is what Nas has already admitted he does in his creative process. Stick Man and Jay elect no doubt come with conversations, views and perspectives Nas was looking for, for that project. If I was Nas I would do the same. If that’s what you wanna call ghost writing then it’s ghostwriting, but I doubt it was Stic Man and Jay writing down verses or reference tracks and handing them over to Nas, It’s probably more nuanced than that.

you what’s so funny nowadays..you can make random statements based on nothing more than barbershop talk, post it on Twitter and the next day it’s a rumour..smh..so now because all parties involved deny the rumour that makes it more feasable?..dude has more than proved his worth to a game that is rapidly throwing it’s moral code out the window in search of relevance,..so this is how we treat our heroes now?..a sad day indeed..

  • D_Ably

I remember findin out that Jay-Z wrote ‘Still D.R.E.’. People shouldn’t be so suprised to find out they’re fav rappers don’t write their own crap. The games been waterd down like that for at least a decade now.

    • dre been known to use ghost wrrites since the days of NWA that was no suprise … i think ice cube was penning his verses back in the nwa days or mc ren

  • Slaughtr

IF ANYTHING NAS GHOST WRITES FOR OTHER FOLKS HE DOESN’T NEED ANYBODY TO WRITE SHYT HIS LYRICS ARE TO PASSIONATE AND TAILORED TO HIS STYLE AND CREATIVENESS. IF THERE IS ANY SUBJECT TO BLAST ABOUT GHOST WRITING THEN ALOT OF YOU NEW CATS NEED TO STOP RELYING ON THAT SHYT. A COMPLETE HIP HOP ARTIST NEEDS TO BE MULTIFACETED PRODUCER,WRITER,HOOK MASTER I COULD DO A LIST BUT NOW CORPORATE BOYS FLUSHIN MILLION DOLLAR BUDGETS ON DOO DOO. I’M DONE

    • nas aint got to many of those credits but i know he wrote a bubble gum record for will smith lol dude is prob still eating off that record tho LOL 😉

      • Slaughtr
