Nas Gets Political, Encourages Youth To Vote

(AllHipHop News) Queensbridge rapper Nas is making sure young people understand the importance of voting in a new Public Service Announcement that was released today (October 2).

Nas has teamed with Ourtime.org, a national nonprofit organization based in Washington D.C., dedicated to empowering America’s youth.

“The future of this country is in the hands of the young people,” Nas said. “We have the power. We can go to the polls in droves. We can go there in droves to get the person we want, we can do that.”

The release of Nas’ PSA comes just one day before the Presidential debates that will take place between current President Barack Obama and his competitor, Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

The debates are slated to take place tomorrow (October 3) at the University of Denver, in Denver Colorado from 9:00PM-10:30 PM Eastern standard time.

The debates will be broadcast live on ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and C-Span, among other cable service providers.

Nas said that participating in the last presidential election gave him a sense of power that he hadn’t felt, prior to becoming a registered voter.

“Now that I’ve voted I feel so much power that I didn’t feel before,” Nas said. “I feel like I got power, like what I say matters,” Nas said.

Check out the PSA below:

    • therealest1

You said most of it right, I agree with you that N!gger Nas is an inappropriate ass clown to speak on this shit when he can’t even take care of his own priorities. But I can’t agree with votes not counting, its still right for everyone to get involved and vote though. Also, please lay low on the all capitals. But otherwise, thanks for speaking the real.

      • THE LAST REALEST NIGGA ALIVE

GEORGE BUSH LOST THE PEOPLES VOTE AGAINST UM.. AL GORE RIGHT? AL GORE WON THE PEOPLES VOTE, WE HAD ACCOMPLISHED THIS FEAT ALREADY. HOWEVER, DURING THE VOTING PROCESS, THERE IS A SECOND PROCESS THAT MUST TAKE PLACE WHICH IS CALLED THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE. WHO EVER WINS THIS VOTING PROCESS WHICH THE PEOPLE ARE EXCLUDED FROM, WILL BECOME PRESIDENT REGARDLESS OF WHO WINS THE PEOPLES VOTE.

      • therealest1

We would’ve been screwed if Al Gore won in 2000, he really wasn’t getting my vote after he said they should try to hookup that little piece of shit Cuban wetback spic off the raft, Elian Gonzalez, with US citizenship just to gain votes. Ain’t no illegal wetback ocean crossing on a shitty raft lover like Al Gore getting my vote!

      • KingsCountyCrooklyn

i agree a person that is illegally in the country should not be granted citizenship, but you need to get that hate out your heart. many in the population of cuba are from african decent and look just like you.

    • marlo stansfield

tired of hearing that ignorant as copout, your vote dont count nonsense. who really think we would be in the situation we are in if mcain n palin won? dumb as!! mcain old and if anything happened to him SARAH PALIN would be potus. also, way to disrespect one of the best mc’s of all time, its cool politics aint your thing bro, if your really as educated as you claim, you would not be up in here talking like an idiot. also very tired of this pac worship. dude was not that nice. talking if pac was here this n that. he is not here bc he was a rich cat acting like a gangster. do dirt n u get dirt. gtfoh talking like u the grand imperial wizard, playing hip hop fan. your to blame for all the soft as rap now a days. pac n big killings made all these kids shook.

      • THE LAST REALEST NIGGA ALIVE

PAC OBTAINED A DIFFERENT TEACHING FROM YOU, HE WAS RAISED BY BLACK PANTHERS. IM INTO POLITICS THATS WHY IM SPEAKING ON IT BRO. BUT IF U ARE NOT EDUCATED ON THE SUBJECT HOW WOULD U UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE BEEN FOOLED CONSTANTLY THROUGHOUT HISTORY? U ARE TRULY A FOOL, GO AND VOTE HELP KEEP THE RICH RICHER AND THE POORER. AND HOW IS NAS ALL THAT NICE??? HIS KNOWLEGDE IS LIMITED. I CAN TELL CUZ IF HE WAS EDUCATED LIKE ME ON THIS MATTER HE WOULDNT BE LOOKING LIKE A MONKEY, FUK OUTTA HERE BOY

      • Soulgasm

Bro, I’m not questioning your knowledge on this subject matter. However, as opposed to talking negatively about another man’s perspective and talking about the “platform you DON’T have”, how about you use THIS platform to talk about the education you say you have on this subject matter. Words are power, but if you waste your time using them to talk down to someone else’s “opinion” (educated or non-educated), then what good are you bringing to the situation that the man you’re talking against is not? *think bro* Use your time wisely.

      • THE LAST REALEST NIGGA ALIVE

YOU HAVE A VALID POINT, WELL TAKEN, I WAS DEFENDING MY POINTS OUT OF FUSTRATION TO A FEW HERE, BUT IM UPSET WITH ARTIST LIKE NAS FOR SELLING OUT LIKE THIS. ITS TOO BLATENT, LOOK AT PUBLIC ENEMY THEY MEAN BUSINESS AFTER THEY DECLINED JAY Z’S OFFER TO PERFORM AT MADE IN AMERICA. BECAUSE THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS WE ARE NOT MADE IN AMERICA. WE HAVE TO STAND UP. NAS HAS BEEN RICHER LONGER THAN HE WAS BROKE. HE WAS ACTUALLY LUCKY TO NOT GO TO HIGH SCHOOL AND ABSORB STREET KNOWLEDGE. I ENVY THAT HOWEVER WE ALL GROW AND HIS MAIN JOB IS A RAPPER NOT AN INTELLECT , WELL A TRUE ONE HE CAN BE THOU, GIVEN HIS PAST LYRICS. BUT VOTING IS A FALSE HOPE FRO AMERICANS, ONE POINT OUT OF MANY I CAN MENTION IS THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE PROCESS. THIS VOTING PROCESS OUTWEIGHS THE PEOPLES VOTE, SO WE HAVE DEMOCRATIC HIPPOCRATES BEFORE US, IN OTHER WORDS, THERE IS NO DEMOCRACY,

      • Casor_Greener

Shut yo dumb ass up. Please explain “why we have an electoral college” first. It has failed what 1x in all of US history. LOL, stop fronting like you got knowledge because you read a few books

      • Celz

@thelastrealestniggaalive:disqus So what are you doing about it? I’d love to know. Stop ranting talking nonsense in all caps and make some valid points and back them with well thought out logic.

      • Soulgasm

With all do respect brother, your last statement is the folly of jaded anti-American sentiment – which I understand. However, electorates vote with the people and have done so 40 of the 44 times we’ve had presidential elections. Electoral voting was originally intended to ensure all candidates were considered during the voting process. Now, that sufficient technology is in place to ensure all candidates’ information is available to all constituents, electoral votes are no longer needed. There have been only 4 instances where the electorate has been in conflict with the popular vote – 1 time in particular was the 2000 debacle. The electoral system can be abolished but it would take some constitutional nudging to do so.

      • marlo stansfield

jus a difference of opinion here. for any one interested, there are many examples of what pac learned from the black panthers. ex: stomping out gangbangers on cctv. the point here is simply that nas is encouraging the youth to vote. it goes with out saying that in order to do that they will need to put in work outside of there day job and families. also the potus is not a king, and if enough ppl mobilize themselves (the way the rich do) they have no choice but to take notice of us.

      • maya

If Tupac were better educated, he’d be alive today.

      • Casor_Greener

        Man you are clown

      • ThetaCi

This is so ignorant. Pac was an amazing 25 year old. Dude had some thought provoking shit. But he was still young. He said some dumb shit, as does NaS. But Nas is grown, IF Pac was still here I’m sure he woulda grown past some of his ideology. We just a small percentage of the population in this country, but poverty and the drug wars are directly pointed at our communities. In order to be heard, our vote has to be sought after by the political machine. If youth DID vote like they could, we would be getting at least some of the shit we want. It’s not perfect but it’s something better than b!tchin all day about your situation…

      • Tell’em…..It’s true….I am always going left with my comments, but I totally agree with most of you about this topic.

    • I agree as well.

  • therealest1

Who in the assfuck said it was alright for N!gger Nas to persuade people
to vote? This ass clown is a very inappropriate ass clown to tell
people to get involved when he can’t take care of his own shits, i.e.
taxes, bills, preventing his daughter from exhibiting promiscuous
behavior, being faithful and honest to his ex-bitch, not properly
protecting his financial assets from being legitimately jacked by his ex-bitch, the list goes on for this retarded N!gger.

Retarded ass N!gger Nas telling telling people to vote is as terrible as MC Hammer, Wesley Snipes or Chris Tucker telling people how to manage their finances.

    Did
they run out of positive black people with common sense and stability
to encourage people to vote? Wouldn’t people like Magic Johnson, Spike
Lee, Shaquille O’Neal, and many others be more logical to encourage
people to vote instead of this retarded ass clown N!gger Nas?

    • Celz

      You’re lost fam

  • THE LAST REALEST NIGGA ALIVE

I WILL MAKE THIS TRUE STATEMENT, IT SEEMS THAT UNEDUCATED PEOPLE OF AMERICA VOTE, AND HIGHLY EDUCATED PEOPLE DONT. AS I QUOTE THE WORDS OF KRS ONE: ” I VOTE FOR GOD ON THE PAPER AND PLACE MY VOTE”

    • maya

You must live in a backwards reality. And what is your definition of “educated?”

    • Casor_Greener

Quite possibly, one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read

    • ThetaCi

Lulz so standing in line to vote for your imaginary friend…genius

Okay Nas; we can vote, but who are we gonna vote for in the presidential election? The senate races and the congressional races are another story, but I doubt he’s talking about that. Those fliers you get in your mailbox that you toss after a quick glance have more relevance in your life than any presidential debate you tune into on TV.

The “liberal democrat” society that is the majority of hip hop, that glorifies materialistic values, brag and boast about having what you don’t have and can’t afford, tell you that not having this makes you less respectable than them, and would rather have your sister giving them brain instead of filling it; they’re now trying to give you political advise after telling you that you’re nothing compared to them and they can f*ck your relationship up effortlessly because your lover is a groupie. No offense to Nas, but they don’t relate to you anymore. They don’t live your life, but they know what’s best for you? These people are living the American Dream, you’re living the American Reality, don’t let them influence any political decision you make.

Obamney 2012, it’s time to choose who gives less of a fvck about your community and vote for the other guy…here’s the catch, they still don’t give a fvck about you or your community and unless you make $150k+ a year, you’re not even a true American. They’re puppets anyway; I don’t recall who said this, but the presidential candidates should be forced to wear Nascar uniforms so we know which corporations they represent, bet you won’t find not one damn “YOU” patch on there…

Look into local politics, that’s where your true power lies…

    • Celz

      Truth

    • Casor_Greener

      another misguided soul

      • eatwhatukill

        Please elaborate…

    • ciscoNoDrink

Damn playa. Did your lady give Nas brain during the “Hate me now ” tour or what?

      • eatwhatukill

Wasn’t really speaking on Nas in that statement, even though that description can be applied to him as well. I was speaking on hip hop as a majority; it’s just funny how they seem to have so much sh!t to talk in each rhyme regarding the very things I posted, but then get all serious when telling you how important it is to follow their advice.

I hope she didn’t blow Nas during the hate me now tour though, that would make Nas a pedophile…

    • I totally agree…Well said

Thanks Nas. I just registered. Now I can vote for Robamney

  • Synista

Well people need to get hip to whats going on in politics because it affects us all in someway shape or form! I just registered to vote for the first time in my life!
Still not a fan of politicians but if I can have a say in which of the lesser evils runs or ruins the country then so be it,that’s better just sitting by and being inactive in the whole election process.
