(AllHipHop News) MTV and the “braintrust”(debatable) convened for their annual p###-off-hip-hop-awards Hottest MC’s list and crowned the Compton-bred MC, Kendrick Lamar as the hottest MC of 2012.

Kendrick’s ability to translate intricate lyricism into chart success a catalyst for his selection according to the “braintrust”.

“Swimming Pools (Drank),” hit #1 on the Rap Songs chart. “Every time you listen to the album you get something new. I was worried that he was such a great lyricist that that wouldn’t translate to sales and then he blew it out of the water,” said RapFix Blog Editor Nadeska Alexis.

Other factors considered were his vicious guest verses (A$AP Rocky “1 Train”, 50 Cent “We On”), non-album street bangers (“Cookies & Cereal”) and his intangible impact on the new generations of Hip Hop artists. “I think Kendrick is kinda shifting the momentum of hip-hop a little bit,” said MTV News Senior Hip Hop Writer Rob Markman.

King Kendrick beat out Hip Hop heavyweights Rick Ross, Kanye West and Nas to land the top spot in his first year being featured on the list. But beating the competition is nothign new to the good kid. Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city  album is hailed as a classic and was the fastest selling rap album of 2012 with it entering the year-end Top 5 best sellers after only 2 full months on the charts. He also recently received awards for Best Rapper and Best Album by the XXL readers.

Kendrick was surprised to hear the news that he was deemed the hottest MC of 2012 as he spoke with Sway backstage at RapFix:

“That’s crazy. We was looking at the years of the different MCs, and we were like, ‘Man, we gotta get on there, we gotta at least get on there.’ But to make it to #1, that’s a whole ‘nother thing… I feel good. Salute!”
