J. Cole: I Disappointed Nas….Allegedly

(AllHipHop News) J. Cole has been compared to Nas in the past and even embraced such comparisons with the cover art for his “Villematic” song back in 2010. However,  Nas might have been a little let down by the precocious upstart’s single “Work Out” from his debut album Cole WorldThe Sideline Story.

  • Jayden

Workout was wack? It was top 20 on billboard,it was a pop and urban radio smash, oh and by the way it went 2x platinum. 2nd single Can’t get enough was also did well on the charts and radio and went gold, it might be platinum. 3RD single Nobody’s Perfect did very well on radio and was top 60 on billboards. I don’t get what the fuse is about, his singles do well on the radio, charts and digitally. Let Cole make his money. Besides if he want to be successful in this industry in the long run he has to expand his fan base or he’s going to be left behind just like Nas was. He have to ask himself do he want to travel the path like Nas or Jay Z. That was hard to say because Nas is my favorite rapper

    • …… Basically.

    • Opposite Of Everyone

since when did sales become a measure of talent ??
That’s like sayin “Eat Shit, 10 million flies can’t be wrong”

      • Jayden

Sales doesn’t measure talent but he has to feed his family too, ya’ll saying it’s wack and it might be but that single expanded his audience. “We singing songs but we know that ain’t true we know you gotta make, the people pay you, cause either you play the game or watch the game play you and be that broke motherf**ker talkin about stay true” -J. Cole. Cole also said “you have to play the game to change the game” and “I’d rather make tracks where I bleed into it, the singles only the look to sell these niggas the book, I hope they read into it”

      • Opposite Of Everyone

the make-a-few-commercial-tracks-to-establish-a-fan-base-then-take-it-back-to-the-essence strategy is a million miles from the essence of hip-hop and rarely plays out thus. As a listener I would prefer all rappers to be broke cause when you’re broke you’re hungry and when you’re hungry you’re RAW !
When you’re eatin you ain’t hungry; simple logic…

Time was when merely having singing on your track was a kiss goodbye to your credibility.

To summarise, there is no creative incentive for an artist to make money as it obliterates your edge and facilitated you becoming just another rapper using tried and tested cliches and aspiring to mediocrity.

      • superh8

Preach…..that’s the reason i don’t listen too todays hip pop.i miss the starving era when niggas were so hungry,it sounded like they were rapping 4 their lives.

      • Celz

        J. Cole betta be concerned with what Asap Rocky and Kendrick Lamar is doin.. Worryin about Nas is the least of his worries..

      • superh8

        Lmao…

    • Celz

Nas can sell out overseas in a days notice.. J. Cole can not.

  • SDS_Overfiend

J.Cole better chill. Please don’t get ethered.. J.Cole been the threshold to greatest for about 5 years now… He is alright. This Nigga Ebro starting some bullshit.. Nas ain’t reaching out to a Nigga to tell him Nah your SINGLE ain’t dope.. That’s bullshit to me… Nas know the business… your single has to appeal. BTW Lifes Good is still he best album I heard in the last 5 years.
