Ice Cube

Hip-Hop Rumors: A Blast From The Past Comes Forward To Diss Dr. Dre and Ice Cube

Its funny how time and that “no-f**ks-given” mentality give way to unnecessary commentary, some might argue. But, its seems like a blast from WAY back is coming forward to speak on some things. Well, we all know – or should know – that Dr. Dre had a life before NWA.

DJ Yella of NWA fame was also in that group as well. Well, let me tell you something. A member of the World Class Wreckin Cru has come forward in a new interview and levied some heavy allegations. FOR THE RECORD, I HAVE NOTHING BUT LOVE FOR CUBE n DRE! AND THE REST OF THE COMP-TOWN POSSE!

On Episode 80 of the Murder Master Music Show of UGS Radio, Prezident Bejda spoke with Dr. Dre’s old friend and former member of the World Class Wreckin’ Cru, Cli-N-Tel and he speaks about everything from Dr. Dre beating women (Not just Dee Barnes) to Ice Cube getting bullied at school and later portraying a fake image as a gangsta.

The early West Coast MC described Ice Cube as one who was bullied and was sent to another school by his Mother and never lived anything remotely close to being a gangsta. Basically it was all an act.

At around 20:23

” I took him under my wing and sort of mentored him. We showed him the ropes. As far as Cube being a gangsta and all that stuff, naw! As a matter of fact he was going to Washington High school and he was getting bullied over there and his Mother was scared he was getting beat up too much so she put him on the bus and was shipping him over to Taft High School which was way across town! Cube wasn’t that dude! “

At around 46:25

“I am being honest, he is the Are We There Yet? He projects the other image with the AK and the scowl but the real Cube is more like the Are We There Yet-Guy verses the other guy!”

When speaking about the famous Dee Barnes incident, Cli-N-Tel says that was nothing new.

At around 29:20

“She wasn’t the first one I know of a few others.Yeah I seen him get rawdog with a couple females and we had a couple conversations about that and I told him that is not how I roll!”

When asked about Dre’s sexuality Cli-N-Tel did defend his old friend saying that he was not gay, or at least not when he knew him.

At around 27:09

” I can say for certain 100% there was never ever any indication or hint of him not being a 100% real dude. What ever people want to say about him later I wasn’t there. I wasn’t there when Suge or Pac made those particular statements. As far as his sexuality and knowing that cat and the broads he smashed and the conversations that we had, naw!”

What a shade interview and they didn’t even ask them all of that. Pretty big assumptions from dudes that put out super sweet album covers……

    • RMFag

      Id suck Cube off though.

      • Guest

It’s amazing that AHH don’t stop RMFag’s freedom of speech. SMH

      • RMFag

        Id suck Guest off though.

      • Guest

RMFag – ha ha – now that was funny lol

  • dominicancoke

Bsides eazy e and mc ren who were both kelly park compton crips the rest of nwa were str8 up mc gusto cb4 cube never gang bang or killed people which is sad since he influence a whole generation to do the wrong shit..og kody monster scott from eight trade gansta crip xposed cube in the 90s since cube grew up around his hood in crenshaw ..cube never banged he was a school kid who put on a gansta act

    • Dead wrong

Yea, I read Monster’s book. I hate that being a murderous villain is so revered in the black community. There’s an unspoken understanding that being feared and being a menace are the best way to get women and respect from your peers as a black man. A lot of the youth are riding that train of thought to an early grave.

      • Dadon850

        I 100% cosign this!!

      • Old School Overdose

        Yo Dead Wrong…you Dead Right!

      • Dead wrong

I wonder why it’s like that fam. You ever heard a group of brothers competing, trying to prove who’s city is the most dangerous in the nation? … One brother from the suburbs of White Oaks or sum shyt will be like, “Ya’ll don’t know shyt about killer Oaks… come out there thinking we sweet!” You’ll be like, “What, you mean the Township of White Oaks? You had one murder there last year and it was a cat that got stung in the throat by a bee.” Who does that except us? Who else is proud of coming from a hellish, crime ridden neighborhood… or trying to prove that their neighborhood is like that except us?
        Shiiids crazzy man.

      • Weedras

and Hip Hop is now a reflection of that shit hence why rappers try to put out an image that isn’t who they are and the ones that are being themselves are deemed ‘soft’…

      • Dead wrong

Exactly, so the parade to self destruction marches on.

      • RMFag

No wonder some black people hate this community so much. Thanks for the tea.

      • DavastatinDave

        The alpha male

      • Dead wrong

That’s a good angle, but I equate an alpha male with somebody that can feed the herd. In our community we have too many alpha role models who are selfish killers with no regard for the masses. Monster led people to prison and the grave. I deal with other cultures regularly, and they give alpha status to successful businessmen and geniuses like Bill Gates who’s ideas feed millions. They look down upon the killers, gang members, and derelicts in their communities that we ascribe alpha status to in our own.

    • Cube never really made negative killer shoot em up music he was more political and a great story teller, but he looked like he’d shoot somebody in the face.Cube ain’t got too many random I’ll kill 100 niggas songs he had shit like Color Blind,Who’s the mac etc.he never really acted super gangster imo he was just a real nigga.

      • Doe Boy

tru shit cube was more political to me too

      • Nobody would listen to Cube and go shoot a nigga. now you may kick a white person’s ass though lol

      • Doe Boy

        lol forreal tho

      • RMFag

What about sucking a grown white man’s azz or dicc?

      • atle fjeldstad

Haha, now that`s true. I started kicking my own ass after listening to the predator album! 😀

      • DavastatinDave

        Thank you

      • Matt Swan

No Vaseline was a classic diss. But he never did sport colors of either side. But I still don’t get why he does the crip walk if he’s not a crip or a banger, not sayin you have to be one to do it, but….just askin a question.

      • Cube has always been crip affiliated.Mostly anybody in LA got some gang affiliation even Drs and lawyers.

    • danboy1386

“i don’t bang i wright the good rhymes” – Ice Cube.

      • Ain’t like he ain’t tell you that he was a victim of neighborhood crime!

    • RMFag

      And gave out gangsta dicc.

  • Dead wrong

Lol@ Charlie Murphy: “Out in L.A. in the 80s this whole androgynous thing was going on… and the dude that looked most like a b!!tch was getting all the women…N!ygga if you was in L.A. in the 80s I don’t care how hard you are now, you was looking like a b!tch back then.”

    @Dre’s pic

    • RMFag

Im glad that stopped, I don’t want puzzy anywhere near me.

      • Dead wrong

Fam, if you actually are gay there’s no need to come out of the closet on every comment. You can join in the conversations without being on some gay trolling shiiit. I’m not responding to each story trying to express my heterosexuality. I’m not on a Lauren Hill article like: “Hell yea I’d svck them tiddays after she pay the IRS.” I know who I am. Know you, be comfortable with it, and engage in conversation like a regular person.

      • RMFag

Id suck you off……(I post interesting stuff sometimes. Example: Im arguing with an idiot on the 2chainz article.)

      • dee

  • Old School Overdose

Did Prince have a clothing line back then?

Interesting interview, a couple decades late so it won’t affect anyone mentioned!

  • hoeyuno

Who thinks of yella first when thinking of nwa. he’s about as relevant as arabian prince

    • That wasn’t Yella though, it was one of them Fruit Loop Troop looking dudes from WCWC with Dre.

      • smizz

That’s DJ Yella in the bottom pic on the far left with the satin 70’s couch overcoat and Mexican Poncho mustache.

      • Yeah, Yella is in the pic suffering from acute Sugar Booty’ism, I just meant that it wasn’t Yella giving the interview.

Good Look though….which one is Cli N Tel?

        That is one corny name!

    • Doe Boy

tru it like 20yr to late thay image not gangsta nomo…in cube have allways been more political then gansta to me n-e-way

    • Who’sthis?

if I see Cube ever in life I’ll confront him on beign a fake gansgter, and if he pushes it I’ll slap him or punch him just for beign fake. Like you talk about guns ok the show me what you can do.

He just was smart, gangsta rap was popular and he HAPPENED to be form Compton so he went with it, and probably for his ego or whatsoever I don’t know.

but being from a a high crime city definitely does not automaticaly make you tough or a G.

      • EL_BARK

Lol i am going to act like i aint even read the comment.

        What u get pop for….

      • smizz

I’m sure Ice cube’s youngest daughter would body slam you.

      • Who’sthis?

so you guys know for a fact that Cube was gangbanging ? What did he do that made him a gangsta ? Did he use a gun, did he fight, did he sell drugs ?

How do you know he’s not just using an image to feel cool about himself and be successfull as a rapper ?

Is it important to you if he is a fake gangster rapper or not ?

      • smizz

Why did he have to be a gangsta? 20 years later and NWA sh*t is still bumping better than anyone who has come out since 2000.

      • Who’sthis?

so basicaly him possibly being a liar is ok. And if you act though gangsta you should get away with it in every regard even if it’s a fake image

      • smizz

Dog, now a days they all act gangster. The real gangsters I knew are dead, in prison or struggling. REAL gangsters don’t make millions off of music. In 2013 and beyond gangsters are lost, bum dudes.

      • naledge77

Exactly. Real G’s don’t pop off at the mouth. They just take care of business and that’s it. These so called G’z that pop off are just hoodlums trying to gain street cred! Real G’s are about 3 things………money, power and respect!!!!

Al Capone…now that man was a gangster!

      • naledge77

No one believes he’s a gang banger or ever was one, but you still ain’t going to do shit.

      • Who’sthis?

well I was just raging for a moment, anyways cube is 43 something I def could take him : But yeah if I’d see him I’ll just try to talk and be happy I met a star

      • SirDappa

clown ass negro…youar ask for his autograph and scream like a girl dont lie..

      • Who’sthis?

I like how they now use black people insults towards white guys

      • SirDappa

shake your family tree I bet a nigga falls out….

      • Who’sthis?

I don’t get it, aaah. However nope I’m not from the USA. In Herzegovina there were never slaves or colonies or a black population. However arguably europeans originate from Africa.

      • $11625525

So the Ottoman Empire had no effect on your region? Check again, and there was a lot of Moors running with the Ottoman’s

      • Who’sthis?

ok cool I’m XY % part black, I get to say the N word 😉 ?

I don’t mind being part black but honestly Portuguese people are part black in Europe and I think people from Spain. And still they are white generally, some in Portugal look part black. In Europe people don’t care bout that.

Sicilian Italians also look darker, might be the climate though

      • $11625525

Read history, read about the Moors and you will understand why they’re dark in those regions and why they hate Black people.

      • Jayce Cabell

You do originate from Africa white boy. You suffer from albinism. that’s why you don’t have any melanin and u Tan to bring your shade closer to mine. Arguably? Argue with Oxford College. They released the facts first.

      • Who’sthis?

dumbass. If it’s a fact then great I have nothing against it. But don’t say you suffer from albinism white boy.

Guess I’ma nigga like you then ok, well

      • Jayce Cabell

How am i the dumbass? i just schooled you son. I just responded to ” However arguably europeans originate from Africa.”

The “Arguable” suggestion is moot. its fact.

and to address your stupidity. Were all african. but you sir, are being a nigga. we all know the merriam-webster definition right?

      • Who’sthis?

you said I was suffering from albinism, wtf ?

Do yo know what albinism is ?

Being a nigga is not that bad, it’s only bad with a er at the end.

But nah I’m neither as nigga sems to have some bad meanign also.

I also don’t exclude the word nigga to skin color, to me it means something else

      • Jayce Cabell

Yeah i said you are suffering from albinism. You are caucasian, you are not a black man. but you are an african. suffering from albinism. you have no melanin. a pink pigment. And albinism isn’t just a black thing. its not even just a human thing. Khemetic teaching explains how you are albino, and why europeans came to exist in the first place. You are caucasian because of your eventual disscent from the caucasus mountains

      • Who’sthis?

it’s called being albino, you sure ?

Anyways I’m not african, to me african is a geographical term.

I’m from europe so I am european.

Descent from africa – ok I can belive that.

      • hoeyuno

You mean if cube ever does charity and visits the mental institute you live at..

      • Who’sthis?

        😉

      • DavastatinDave

        You aint gone do shit

      • naledge77

Man the only thing you’ll do is ask this man for his autograph and pose with him for a picture! GTFOH!!!!

I can’t stand tough guy bloggers!!!

      • Who’sthis?

I was ragging, not a blogger also.

      • naledge77

See, doesn’t honesty make you feel a little bit better. hehe

Don’t take none of my shit personal either man. I fucks with people on here that seem to get real emotional about their opinions. But yeah cmon man don’t front you know you blog your ass off!

      • Who’sthis?

lol I bet your a bloger. I don’t blog, it doesn’t seem fun. I just comment around sometimes

  • chippc

I dont give a damn about what this guy has to say im keeping in mind the image of Ice cube I grew up with in the 90’s, and as far as Dre beating up wemon okay I can buy that. At the end of the day though he showed up a couple of decades and some years to late to try to discredit the pioneers of gangsta rap music

  • DavastatinDave

Why does the dude in the first picture with the big ass ear ring remind me of Genie lamp from south central

Technically Ice Cube was bullied around by Dee-Bo in FRIDAY I mean who cares? At the end of the movie Dee-Bo gets knocked the f–k out and that’s all that matters… I don’t see this as something riveting about Cube’s past…

    • exactly. shit happens when you’re a kid. there’s who get picked on everyday that fight back.

    • brotha_man

growing up in the 80’s and 90’s wasnt easy gangs and violence everywhere motha-fuggas got checked for the color of there clothes back then…..even here in the Mid. I think every OG has a tale of getting fucked wit, then they click up and make sure it doesnt happen again….I would be suprised if big meech didnt get bullied as a kid at one time in his life.

I don’t think it’s a secret that most of nwa were not gang members.. apparently eazy was the only one in that life..

  • RockyMountainRaider

Nothing that the God Father didnt tell us, R.I.P. Eazy.

  • John Q. Public

Some of this might be jealousy from sum irrelevant dude while dre is on his way to billionaire status and cube has his own music, tv, and film empire.
and who cares if Cube wasn’t pulling drive-bys and bangin? Him going to school and getting an education is probably the reason why he’s a successful millionaire. callin sum1 a “schoolboy” as an insult? education was never a bad thing.
And just real quick for everyone reppin so hard for Eazy E in these comments. he was the least talented member of nwa and 1 the most overrated rapper of all time. He had all his rhymes written by other members or the D.O.C. and is the main reason the group fell apart because he was more loyal to an old white jewish man then his “homeboys”

    • Jayce Cabell

      truth!

    • Celz

Real talk though.. And actin like gettin beat up at a L.A. highschool is a bad thing? Trust me there are killers in prison for killing people who had to switch schools for getting bullied and beat up at school. Anyone from Cali knows that L.A. has Crip and Blood schools. If you go to school in a certain hood and the niccas that run that school don’t like you, you can’t go to school their anymore period. It doesn’t matter who you are, how good you fight, what gang you are from, or any of that..

  • StreetMediaZone

  • RBG4Life

Real talk, Amerikkkas Most Wanted is one of the dopest Hip Hop albums ever and Dre is one of the illest producers to ever do it (the skits, album cohesiveness, sound quality, ear for talent, etc.). Period. This music is the only reason why I know of them. When I know them personally, I’ll worry about the rest. Peace.

  • nino.brown

Eazy-E was the only real dude in NWA, but anybody with common sense knew that already.

  • VentKing11

that’s like saying Larenze Tate wasn’t the “O-Dog” he portrayed in movies…thanks, but I think we got that already buddy

  • Herb_Bane

Sounds like the ramblings of a bitter man.. Besides i would say 75% or more of the game is not what they portray..

  • ice cube is really craig from friday, without the ability to whip deebo tho, that chracter wasnt a gangsta

  • digitallife

Folks still want to single out Rick Ross for being a cop? The hypocrisy of hip-hop fans knows no limit. I’ve been on here for a minute using Cube as an example of dudes complete careers and backstories being complete fabrications. Just like I have said the same thing about Jay-Z. Rappers pay real dudes and honor them by living their stories on wax..they don’t actually live that life and reach icon status ever..the streets claim those real dudes way before they can reach it..see B.I.G for an example of a real dude claimed by the streets just on the verge..and no B.I.G never reached his full potential.

    • Trujudah

i dont remember cubes back story ever being he was a gangster. but let me tell you this.. i am no thug never been gangster never aspired to be any of that shit. but i did live in the hood.. i do have dead homies. i have been shot at i have been robbed i have done my lil crime shit i have fucked wit hood rat hoes sold my lil weed my house been shot up my cousin got his damn head blew in a drive by in the front yard i lived in the same hood and grew up with these same gangbang niggas……. and i am no kinda gangster but why would i not be qualified to speak on this life???? cube is official. hes the only one to do it right. go revisit americas most and death certificate.

      • digitallife

There is a difference between telling someones story and saying that other persons life is your life story. Cube for years lied about it, just like Rick Ross did as has Jay-z, jeezy, and countless others. While I understand why rappers do it I think taking that approach to an under educated audience is truly dangerous. Look at Tupac..Tupac I think is the only rapper to bother presenting both sides of the landscape which is that life..the joy and adrenaline rush of it but the many pitfalls of it. I just sat with one of my people out of Chicago to talk about the gang culture out there and how it’s fueled by the music culture heavily. What makes you unqualified? Watching someone Skydive doesn’t make you an expert at skydiving..same applies to street life. You can’t ever know every feeling, every consequence, every cost of the life unless you physically have lived it, experienced it,and survived it. Watching stuff happen doesn’t make anyone an expert, it makes them a viewer.

      • Jayce Cabell

im 50/50 on your response digital. Yes the skydive analogy makes sense, but think of it more like religion. you have Church goers who know the bible in an out, and you have church goers who believe in the word, but aint living it, and then you have people who are there because they have to be. The all familiar with god, and know what he’s about. The bible thumpers are the ones who can break it all down obviously, but the person who is there because they have to be might be able to recite some verses too. A regular guy from the hood still has the ability to speak on that shit because he’s had no choice but to grow up there, and witness the tragedys and the culture surrounding the “hoodlife”

      • digitallife

Yes they have the ability to speak on it but the issue is can they speak on it as an expert? No they cannot..it’s one thing to be a survivor its a whole other thing to be the predator. I gave up the game at 16 once I had a gun put to my head and the gun didn’t go off..but if you had asked me to explain what that feels like prior to experiencing it I would’ve only been able to speak on it in hypothetical form. I wouldn’t have been able to tell you what I felt, how surreal it was, or any of the other particulars that make the story reverberate and have actual meaning. It’s the same reason rappers are one dimensional in telling street tales giving very little in the sense of raw emotion about it. Any fool can make verses about busting guns, pushing grams..very few can actually say stories about when a re-up goes bad, or when a stick up went wrong and someone died, and so forth because it involves emotions they’ve not felt and can’t harness the imagination to make believable.

damn i replied to this, but it aint show

      • Trujudah

ok. you see them as experts? see that very few is the thing you mentioned . i think maybe the experiences are more common than you realize. i tried hard to stay away from the shit. and all things considered i did……and i say i did but all my friends have still been shot or in prison. niggas still shot up my bedroom. all kinds of fuckery. and i consider myself far from that. this type of shit happens when you grow up there your whole life. it just is what it is.

      • Trujudah

lol yep exactly what i was trying to say.

      • Trujudah

are you familir with cubes earlier music? pac was good but not the first. look man like i said im not gangster but ive been through all the same shit, grew up in the same hood have the same dead friends lived with and around drug dealers and abusers and every man around me was an actual pimp. i been involved in gun play sold weed grew up poor real hood shit whatever. and i am not a gangster. but you are telling me i am not qualified to speak on my life? i lived that shit. i can speak on things ive seen and done felt and heard. how else do you inspire creativity. ive never seen cube as a gangster. mac 10 was a blood. dub c was a crip and they repped it. cube was a nigga from the hood. im not a gangter or a thug but ive lived it so i am an expert on hood shit for sure. its like askin a mexican to speak spanish. its me. watching someone sky dive does not make you an expert at all… neither does sky diving 1 time but it sure makes you qualified to speak on the experience.

    • Celz

You sound like a hater bro.. Just sayin don’t feel like debatin the other niccas below are sayin most of the same ish I would..

    • Kyle Meta4ce

actually, BIG went to private school and was imitating D Roc’s life.

  • Abrasive Angel

Ice Cube never rapped about being gangster until he started Westside Connection other than that he was more like a hardcore conscious rapper. Ole dude must be mad he didn’t get chipped up with the NWA checks and now the NWA movie in the works. He’s probably not even mentioned in the film.

    • JusNathaniel

Thats hip hop for you, you gotta fake it till you make it

  • $11625525

As far as I recall, Cube’s line in interviews back then was always; “Whatever I’ve rapped about is something I’ve witnessed or something someone I know has gone through or witnessed”

Now that was enough of a disclaimer for me to be able to listen to his music and never think about him being a “Fake Gangster”.

Luther Vandross made love songs we all thought were for women but he favoured men, was he a fake? GTFOH!

Just take it for what it is, entertainment, and artists have creative license.

    • Who’sthis?

    • Who’sthis?

Luther Vandross was not form a genre that says all time how they keep it real and they are the truth. Lies are lies. Fake is fake.

    • John Q. Public

I had no idea Luther was gay. Is that fact or rumor?

  • Tim-House

In LA you’re either Blood or Crip. Even though Cube is from a Crip hood, he never claimed either. He never ONCE claimed to gang bang. He just told stories & did it in a way that explained the method to the madness that was LA gang life. Most of his songs that were stories almost always ended up bad for the “role” he was playing…”Bird In the Hand”, “My Summer Vacation”, “What Can I Do”, Ghetto Bird” shiiit even “How To Survive In South Central”. Snoop claimed Rollin 20’s crip, Quik claimed Treetop Piru, Eiht claimed Tragnew Park, WC claimed 100s. Name an instance where Cube claimed a set.
He’s a modern day griot, Nas does the same thing, just an east coast version, observing and reporting to those that are about that life & the ones that ain’t.
