Murs Set To Merge His Love Of Hip Hop & Comics In New Project

Murs To Release Comic Book/Album Project ‘Yumiko: Curse of the Merch Girl’

(AllHipHop News) California emcee Murs is happy to admit that he is a devout comic book fanboy. He has even said, “the place I feel most comfortable in the entire world is Comicon.” Now the organizer of the annual Paid Dues Hip Hop Festival is combing two of his favorite interests, Hip Hop and comics, into a new project titled Yumiko: Curse of the Merch Girl.

The multimedia project will feature a 70-page comic book and musical soundtrack. Unlike previous comics created by Hip Hop artists, Yumiko will not present Murs as the superhero of the story. He provides the narration for tale about the temptations associated with the music industry.

Yumiko was written by Devil’s Due Entertainment’s Josh Blaylock and illustrated by Jose Garcia. The ten chapter comic book will be a part of an iTunes bundle package available for download when purchasers buy the Murs’ LP of the same name.

Yumiko: Curse of the Merch Girl album was produced entirely by DJ Foundation. It was the first time the producer from the Hip Hop collective The Insects and Murs collaborated on recorded music. Yumiko was completely founded by fans’ contribution to a kickstarter campaign.

“Heavy rock meeting traditional boom bap Hip Hop with an electronic flair,” describes Murs about his latest work.

The song “Love” and the first chapter of the comic book are now available for free at The Duck Down Shop.

The full Yumiko: Curse of the Merch Girl comic/album will be available for digital download on July 16th.
