Jay-Z's 'MCHG' To Become 1st Rap Album Since 2011 To Top Album Chart 2 Straight Weeks

‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ Headed For 2nd Week At The Top

(AllHipHop News) Jay-Z’s huge opening week sales for his latest album Magna Carta Holy Grail were just the beginning. Billboard is now reporting that the LP will easily top the album sales chart in its second week as well.

There are no official or unofficial numbers in yet, but industry sources can already conclude that no other project seems to be threatening Jay’s reign at the top.

If MCHG stays at number 1 for another week it will be the first time a rap album has topped the Billboard 200 for consecutive weeks since Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV in September of 2011.

Since that time J. Cole’s Cole World: The Sideline Story, Mac Miller’s Blue Slide Park, Drake’s Take Care, Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, Nas’ Life Is Good, Rick Ross’ God Forgives, I Don’t, 2 Chainz’s Based on a T.R.U. Story, A$AP Rocky’s Long. Live. ASAP, Kanye West’s Yeezus, Wale’s The Gifted, and Cole’s Born Sinner have all reached number, but none of those albums were able to hold onto the top spot for more than a week.

Another week at number one for Jay would also make it five straight weeks that an album by a Hip Hop artist sat at the pinnacle of music sales in the country.
