Trayvon Martin’s Hoodie Will Be In Smithsonian Museum

(AllHipHop News) Trayvon Martin is gone but definitely not forgotten. The Smithsonian Museum plans to feature the hooded sweatshirt Trayvon Martin wore on the night he was murdered by George Zimmerman in their new National Museum of African American History and Culture branch.

Lonnie Bunch, the director of the new branch told The Washington Post that the symbolism and potential for discourse are the reasons the hoodie would be featured:

“It became the symbolic way to talk about the Trayvon Martin case. It’s rare that you get one artifact that really becomes the symbol.”

Currently, the hoodie is with the United States Department of Justice as evidence in their investigation of George Zimmerman’s potential civil rights violation stemming from him murder of Trayvon Martin.

The Smithsonian plans on opening the National Museum of African American History and Culture branch in Washington in 2015 and will reportedly also feature archival footage from Video Music Box.
