Marvin Gaye’s Son Speaks On Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” Lawsuit

(AllHipHop News) Last week Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams, and Clifford “T.I.” Harris filed a lawsuit against the family of the late soul singer Marvin Gaye. The suit was an attempt by the trio to prevent the Gaye family from suing them first over the mega hit “Blurred Lines” which the Gayes say was blatantly inspired by Marvin’s music.

“There’s a way to do business and a way not to do business, and we’re not happy with the way he went about doing the business,” Marvin Gaye III told TMZ. “Let alone he’s suing us over something where he clearly got his inspiration from at the least.”

In the interview Marvin III says that he currently suffering from kidney failure and Thicke’s lawsuit is causing duress on him and his entire family. He also mentions that this legal matter is taking away time for him to promote his own music project, but felt he needed to step up and defend the legacy of his father.

“If you listen to the music, I’m sure anyone will see the similarities between what my father does and what Robin Thicke has been trying to do,” said Gaye.

Gaye would not confirm whether he or any other family member is planning to sue Thicke over “Blurred Lines,” but he did reveal he has been speaking with his lawyer about the situation.

“Clearly got his inspiration from”? Really? You can sue for “inspiration” now? If THAT is the case, the lawsuits should be OUT OF CONTROL!!! What about Justin Timberlake’s new song? “Take back the night”. Or Chris Brown’s “Fine China”. clearly inspired by MJ. Eric Benet has a song that is CLEARLY inspired by Maze’s “Happy Feelings”. These are just the first ones that I thought of. There are millions more. This is ridiculous.

  • Reblogged this on HUEY mix wit RILEY.

  • the two songs sound so similar that I thought Pharell sampled it…. but if he didnt sample it, u have no lawsuit.

  • Lamar Star

Inspired by Marvin Gaye, really. Could have fooled the hell out of me. How could such greatness inspire such wackness

  • Don_Te

I guess Ghostface about to sue Bronson next…

    • Don_Te

But I do have to say that “Blurred Lines” does remind you of “Gotta Give It Up”

  • MrNoName2K

  • Thenatural503

Is it just me or does his girl look like she is just some stand in so he looks a little less fruity?

  • junj03

Few instruments alike but NOT the same song or sound.

  • Weedras

Marvin Gaye’s son is clearly a dumbass… how’re you gonna sue for someone being inspired? you’re not suing over a sample or anything that can be substantially proven lol! i guess alot of old artists family will be queuing up if this case makes it anywhere because literally every artist today has taken something from a past performer…

  • Golgo 13

ye a person usually sues an artist if they sampled there music. i never knew u could sue another artist if there inspired by there music that’s like Micheal jacksons family suing Chris brown just because Micheal is a big influence in his music

I SEE MOST OF YOU DO NOT KNOW MUSIC LAW—
    ALL YOU SAY IS CONJECTURE.

NOW COPYRIGHT LAW DOES SAY IF YOU SAMPLE OR USE AN INTEPLORTATION OF A SONG YOU HELD LIABLE.

THAT BEING SAID, THERE IS MORE THAN ELEMENTS. HE CLEARLY COPIES.

THIS IS WHY BLACK PEOPLE ARE EASILY DIVIDED, BUT THEN AGAIN YOU GOT ASIANS AND WHITE KIDS CLAIMING THEY ARE A PART OF HIP HOP.

    NO YOU ARE NOT.

HIP HOP IS A LIFESTYLE NOT BY CHOICE AS SOME OF YOU ASIAN KIDS DO, BUT OUT OF NECESITY. AND WHEN PEOPLE WERE GOING THROUGH THOSE HARD TIME THERE WERE NO WHITE KIDS NO ASIANS ONLY BLACKS LATINOS AND THE FEW WHITE KIDS WHO WERE DOWN FROM DAY ONE.

STOP STEALING. STOP SAYING MARVIN CANT SUE MICHAEL COULDNT SUE CAUSE HE COULD IF HE WANTED.

MOST OF YOU ARE CONSUMERS AND YOU DO NOT KNOW COPYRIGHT LAW.

MR THICKE DOESNT HAVE A FOOT TO STAND ON.
THIS IS AN OPEN AND SHUT CASE.

    THICKE WILL LOSE.

    • Jay

LOL. Wow. Asians are not hip hop? So, you have to go come from poverty to be hip hop, to live the ‘lifestyle’? Maybe wear some Jordans and oversized basketball jerseys/white tees? You’re just mad that some of the best bboys DJs, and graffiti artists come out of Korea, the Philippines and Japan. It’s your pathetic attempt to define what hip hop really is that divides people. You need to get out of your box and realize hip hop isn’t just a ‘black’ thing…

      • Pierre Elliott

IT IS A BLACK THING AT ITS CORE. I DONT IVE A FCUK WHAT ANYONE SAYS… NO ONE WAS AROUND WHEN LISTENING TO BLACK MUSIC WASNT THE THING… NOW OTHERS WANNA CLAIM IT FOR THEIR OWN.

NO, RESPECT IT. ADMIRE IT. BUT IT WILL NEVER BE YOURS.
        ITS OURS.

      • ^ You are racist..

    • Hell racist. How TF you racist??
WHEN YOU GREW UP all your life being treated unjustly because your skin?

      Baffles me………..

BTW, this is America, So HIP HOP is an AMERICAN THING, BITCH.
