KNOCKOUT NATION: Who Should Money Mayweather Fight Next?

At this point, you would have to had been living under a rock for the past 6 years or so to not know that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the ‘meal ticket’ when it comes to boxing spectacles. His last two fights alone generated well over 100+ million in revenue for himself if you tally up his pre-fight guarantees along with the back end money he’s expected to make off PPV sales. When boxers get into the ring with ‘Money”, well, that is exactly what they’re expect to earn in return; most of the time, this is when boxers earn their biggest career paydays. With that said, which boxer (or victim) is most qualified to earn their highest grossing payday to date against Floyd next spring? I compiled a list of potential candidates that will perhaps be in the running for the ”Money May” sweepstakes. I begin first with:

Danny Garcia (27-0, 16KOs)

Philadelphia’s undefeated WBC/WBA junior welterweight champ, Danny Garcia. All this guy does is defeat who the mass majority aren’t even expecting him to beat. This includes: Eric Morales (fight #1), Amir Khan, Lucas Matthysse, and the list goes on. While I believe this young lion would be in way over his head skill wise against Floyd, I do believe that he deserves at least a good payout against Mayweather, he’s paid his dues. If Canelo could get one this early in his career, then why not Danny?

Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KOs)

This one picked up a little steam right after Mayweather’s defeat over Cannel Alvarez. Rumors circulated that Khan decided to cancel his negotiations against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander for a Dec, 7th bout. Instead, it was cited that he wanted to postpone any activity and enter into the “Mayweather Sweepstakes”. Does he deserve this shot? NO, but this is a matter of economics. To quote one of my favorite movies, “Training Day”, Denzel was quoted as saying “It’s not what you know, it’s what you can prove”; I’d like to revise that a little bit in this case by saying “It’s not what you deserve, it’s what you can provide or offer”. Amir has a very large UK fan-base which could in the end make this a very enticing selection for Floyd come May, 3rd.

Bradley next…..Garcia should wait….and Khan is an insult to suggest….by far no comp to Mayweather at all

    • Live Well

I agree. Khan at least has an exciting style and enough size to sell the fight. He also has a long reach like Floyd. That’s what people really miss about how Floyd dominates, his reach is sick for his size.

Today’s reality is…no one from 140-154 stands a chance in a” boxing” match with Floyd…no one…I personally would like to see him make a few brothas mult-millionaires before he retires instead of the same ol usual suspects…lace Alexander’s pockets a lil bit…Trout could use a payday…although he’s still fairly green, Keith “One Time” Thurman would be a nice change of pace….after Stevens takes care of GGG this wkend…make him an offer @ a catch weight…there’s a slim to no chance of a Broner showdown so he’s out of the equation unless they’re cooking up a grand finale behind the scenes….what about the young brotha that recently overcame his battle with cancer…afterall Americans are suckas for a heartfelt storyline…Pac Man is who the people really want to see b.u.t. contrary to *popular* belief, Floyd would make him look like a novice and the cries of him running the whole fight wouldn’t cease so, get over it…IDGAF how impressive he may look in his upcoming bout against Rios, he is NOT Floyd’s equalizer…you can also forget about Ruslan as well…he’s a walking punching bag and will never hit Floyd flush…Garcia is a viable option plus his pops will mos def help in the promotions dept…he needs to cut the racial sh*t out tho…not a good look…effective for getting the enemy on board b.u.t. nah…don’t like the division it will cause in the end…

    • Khan = Easy Pay Day
Bradley, Garcia, Pac Man & Bernard Pop’Kins at catch weight 160lbs for last fight.

Pop’Kins is a helluva way to go out, and may be the only fighter with a chance.

      • BigHomie337

Floyd can’t make the 154 jr middleweight limit. No way he’s gonna fight @ 160. I think they have to work behind the scenes to make it seem as if him and Broner have a rift and fell out. Notice how Floyd has become more mature and humble in interviews while Broner is a talented douche. Make sure Broner stays undefeated and one of Floyd’s last 2 fights can be against him. It would really sell.

      • 160 is a long shot & Pop’Kins will be 175 by fight time if the weigh in is 2 days b4 the fight, but with both using Mickey Shillstone, it could be done, and make for a classic pre fight show.

Broner Vs Bradley 1st, then Broner last seems like a power move.

      • Live Well

Floyd would dominate Broner. He’s way too big and obviously too skilled.

      • DJ7

Of course Khan’s an easy payday b.u.t. there’s no demand for that fight…As for B Hop…he can’t make that weight and neither can Floyd…not realistic…Bradley and Manny are under Bob Arum’s umbrella so, too much politics involved b.u.t. do able if the $$$ is right…Garcia …I already mentioned him and yes, he would be a viable opponent and both of their pops would greatly assist in the promotions b.u.t. I see that as his next to last bout…the stage isn’t set for that one yet….on another note…IMHO Floyd has done more than enough for the Mexicants in securing their financial futures so I really don’t care to see another Cinco de Mayo showdown with another hyped up Mexican, I’d rather see him set a couple brothas straight before he rides off into the sunset…*my opinion*…As my man mentioned below and I eluded to previously….don’t count out Broner as the grand finale…they could be cooking something marvelous up behind the scenes ala WWE…losing a fight to Floyd *fixed or not* wouldn’t be the end of his young career so.???…afterall, money IS the name of the game

      • Losing to Floyd, on last fight will help Broner’s career, but don’t sleep on Pop’Kins, my $$ is on him at 160lbs.

Nobody does the weight game like Pop’Kins.

      • Live Well

They won’t give him credit for a catch weight fight against Hopkins. It would have to be for the middleweight belt at 160. they tried to front on him for the 152 catch weight against Alvarez.

      • No belts.

      • Live Well

        I feel that.

Thurman is about to fight Paulie Malinaggi. It will be his first real test.

      • BigHomie337

Paulie is about to fight Zab in the new Brooklyn arena. They both are from Brooklyn

  • Bumpy Johnson

im trying deeply to think what the f*** does this have to do with hip hop

    • PhilTheGreat

A lot of Hip Hop dudes been into boxing. Look at the next PPV title fight and you will see Hip Hop celebs everywhere. Especially if Mayweather is fighting. He was even in the front row of the BET Hip Hop awards and they showed him a lot on TV. Not to mention boxers and Hip Hop celebrities act a lot alike these days.

      • Bumpy Johnson

ou so boxing is part of hip hop now, when a boxer does something it is hip hop news now ..to yall…okay i see….f*** all you MFs on here…ima go listen to some wu tang now n reminisce to the essence …..im done with this site!

      • BreadBaker510

this bitch must be on her period

      • Live Well

Dog, Wu talked about boxing all the time in their rhymes.
MC-ing and boxing go hand in hand because they’re both one on one battle sports.

  • game213

I like how floyd has brainwashed everyone to thinking that pacquiao is not a worthy opponent for him cuz he took a loss. A floyd and Pacquiao fight will still outsell and get the highest rating than floyd vs any other fighter out right now.

    • BreadBaker510

even though I think pac man is a bum i also agree that it would be a bigger payday then any of those fights. I would not even pay for that Khan fight unless he had ab on the under card

    • Live Well

I agree 100% but Manny has looked bad his last 3 fights. He’s gotta make people believe he can still turn somebody’s lights out to get the hype machine rolling again.

      • game213

Lets be real here Manny was winning that fight before the knockout vs marquez, and the previous fight with timothy bradely, common everyone knows that manny got that fight. and before that he beat marquez. so how has he looked bad his past 3 fights? yea he got knocked out by marquez but it was not like marquez was doing damage to him

      • Live Well

Marquez knocked him down with a overhand right earlier in the fight. Yes, Manny was winning but at the end of the day he was asleep and that looked bad. He was robbed in the Bradley fight but Manny looked bad in that fight too. He was supposed to walk right through Bradley and couldn’t…and Bradley had two bad ankles. Most people think that Marquez beat him in the fight before the knockout fight. I like Manny a lot but he needs to look a lot better against Rios than he did in his last 3 fights.

  • Charismatic eNegro Jef Vinson

Amir Khan first, then Danny Garcia. Then maybe that Russian dude that almost beat Tim Bradley (unless he’s signed to top Rank. Anyone signed to them won’t get a fight with Floyd…and that includes Pacquiao.)

  • Mr.CPT

Tim Bradley should get a shot!!!!!!

  • dbfromdc

    two cake walks

  • Live Well

Tim Bradley deserves the shot but Amir Khan is the bigger money fight. He should fight both of them, then Manny when he gets out of his Top Rank contract.
