Jay-Z and Dame Dash

Dame Dash: I Helped Jay Z Have A Career But I’m Not Entitled To His Money

I heard m*therfuckers saying they made Hov/Made Hov say, “Ok so, make another Hov”-Jay Z on “Lost Ones”

(AllHipHop News) Bromance? Frenemies? The nature of Jay Z and Dame Dash’s relationship post- Roc-A-Fella breakup is still murky and Dame may have gave it more vagaries.

In a recent interview for the upcoming February issue of Details Magazine, Dash spoke on his new ventures but most importantly his relationship with former business partner, Jay Z. In the interview, obtained by Complex, Dash asserts “I’m not counting that man’s money” before explaining his influence on Jay Z’s reported $470 million fortune:

It’s like saying, “I used to mess with a girl, and before I used to mess with her, she was mediocre. But because she started messing with me, I taught her things. I dressed her, and then I taught her how to have a career.” Does that mean after we break up I’m still supposed to be able to get some ass?’ He laughs at his crass analogy. ‘Like, I don’t feel entitled to that p*ssy. You understand what I’m saying? I don’t feel entitled to nothing he’s got.

Dash, never one to mince words went on to criticize the people Jay Z has been associated with in recent years. According to Dash, people like former Island Def Jam Lyor Cohen and Jay Z’s manager John Meneilly are only around Jay Z for monetary gain:

‘No disrespect to Jay—but every single person I see hanging around him is making money off him. They all conform so they can eat off him.’

This is not the first time Dash has hinted at being behind Jay Z’s business acumen during the Roc-A-Fella days to Details magazine. In 2005, a year after the infamous Roc-A-Fella split, Dash stated Jay was an “intelligent individual” whom needed to “show he can be the one to do the business part as opposed to the creative part.”

Jay Z is a smart business man, if there’s people hanging around him for monetary gain he’s making just as much. Dame Dash has never come out and said it but I bet he wishes he was still right there with Jay. Not to discredit Dame he’s just as much the business man but JayZ is on another level buisness wise….
***now let the illuminati comments begin***

    • Da Real MoSotho

i wouldn’t say Jay is on another level. he just has a product(rap), and a market corporations can sell into. Dash was dispensable the moment Jay was on top . Dash’s problem is he wants to own everything and with ownership comes the hard knocks like losing your own money. Dash will be back on top!! motor oil and whiskey can make you real money… 5 more years and niggas will be riding his dick again.

      • bigdoe6

I don’t blame him for being about ownership. One thing i respect about the dude is that he wore that ROC on his sleeve. That empire wasn’t built to let lames come in and break it up. I just hope they get money again even if it’s not with music.

      • Arrie Mental Woodard

i was trying to explain to someone that the only reason he has all these business ventures now is because of Jay Z the rapper, who blew up to that status because of Dame’s behind the scenes screaming and closing deals

  • water_ur_seeds

Dame is a good businessman, Jay wouldn’t be here if its wasn’t for him… But didn’t he go bankrupt? I know he hit hard times and had several failed attempts to kick things off again. He’s a hustler for sure, I hope he gets back to the top…

    • $18916246

Dames, a loud mouth that burned his bridges…you can get but so far on street corner tactics…I too wish dude well though.

      • water_ur_seeds

Yeah he was the arrogant asshole that Rocafella needed at the time so they didn’t get pushed around in the board room etc, and they did need that/him, it was cool while he had a commodity in Jay, but as soon as Jay left all he had was burnt bridges like you say, and then the business world gave him the middle finger…

      • Arrie Mental Woodard

everybody say loud mouth. at the time they was all loud mouths but Dame got results. people act like he wasn’t finalizing deals left and right. some people have different tactics. Alot of people were getting jerked around on deals around that time but not jay and Dame cuz Dame wasnt having that shit!

    dame & jay-z could save Hip-hop all over again……… @streetlifemediagroup

  • bigdoe6

Before everybody starting hating on Dame, the man is telling the truth. This is not diss to Jay but the man is speaking out and still got Jay back. He letting people know the real.

  • Black Jay

Good message. Horrible analogy. Jay could read that and straight go bezerk. What is he, a bitch? Dame…. Please….. For the sake of everyone. Move on. If questions about Jigga come up, simply say “No comment.” You’re playing yourself now. You’re like the jilted ex girlfriend. Jay ain’t saying sh*t about you in zero interviews. Why you gotta try to stay relevant by playing yourself like that? Go do your art studio or whatever. If you were quiet and did your own thing, you and Jay might be at a place where you could do some biz together. Just be quiet dude.

    • Romia Blue

Wasn’t he supposed to be producing motor oil?
      lol

    • Arrie Mental Woodard

you say that but then if he would have said no comment to the reporter then everyone would still be saying he bitter. he didnt ask himself that question and dodging the questions might be more damaging. He didnt sound bitter at all toward jay. he sounded sincere.

I honestly think outside influences fucced up Roc-A-Fella. When the circle was small, just Jay, Beans, Bleek, Dame, and Freeway things was all love. But when u let Cam and dem Dipset niggaz come in wit their egos cuz Cam was really poppin at da time, getting in Dame’s ear about how he should be making all the decisions on who to hire and fire and makin Cam president, that’s where the shit gets funky. Keep in mind, Jay never really wanted to bring Dipset over in the beginning because the crew he had was buzzin already. But when Dame let them Harlem boys gas him up, things went bad. Jay dipped and them Dipset boys was nowhere around when shit started crumbling and Dame was out there alone. Keep them squares out ya circle at all costs.

    • Arrie Mental Woodard

it was crumbling before Dipset. Dame was always down with Cam, that wasnt a new relationship in that regard just the business. But shit was going sour before and that just added fuel to the fire. But i mean, if you think about Jay Z has none of his original team behind or with him now. I mean dam not even Bleek! I mean they doing roc reunion shows and he cant even pop up and do 1 joint with Bleek?

  • $18916246

Dame is bitter, as he gets older so does the fame, game, and money. He see’s expire coming fast instead of retire. JAY-Z (the name) is a brand so the objective is to make money off the brand JAY-Z in turn Shawn Carter rightfully sees a residual, Its just good business. Dame is mad cause he’s not making the money he wants to make off of Jay like he use to and then taking more than his share. Dame, make real peace with Jay, get some seed money and start that “real” new business venture. Have Jay broker a deal or two to help set you on your way. LA ROC FAMILIA, ALL WE ASK IS TRUST. Stop yappin to the mics and cameras and work at reclaiming your friendship with Jay. Humble yourself Dame. Sad Dame’s analogy is befitting of his name (Dame). SAD.

  • pauleyPee

The fanboys here kill me. Look, where Jay-Z is at, where he’s been, where he’s going? He’s proven a better thinker, entrepreneur, and businessman than Dame Dash. The world doesn’t operate on the what-if’s of the past… Dame Dash was an integral part of the Roc team, but let’s be real, Jay-Z was and still is the main attraction. There is no curved grading scale in real life. Dame is living on old money and past relevance. So, sit down fanboys, numbers don’t lie. And please don’t get me fu**ed up as a Jigga d*** rider… I just get tired of your misperception and delusions.

    • Jayson C Williams

Ever heard of master teacher scenario? Well jays very smart but we all learn from someone don’t fight the feeling jay didn’t wanna be dames son forever in rap history

      • pauleyPee

You’re not a very realistic man, Jay.

      • Jayson C Williams

No that’s the problem being realistic and what actual happened facts? Are totally different. Humans tend to believe they do everything uh themselves so I won’t go further than that

    • Arrie Mental Woodard

Jay was the main attraction because he was the rapper. Rocafella wouldnt have been shit without Dame screaming on people and commanding the respect he felt they deserved. Jay learned from Dame and ran with it. and if you really think about people say well look at jay Z now blah blah blah but without Dame there woud be no Jay Z or at least to the level of the man now.

      • pauleyPee

Considering that there is no way to measure intangibles outside of being 1) God or 2) A first-party observer… I’m going to just assume that the guy with the money, the career, and the slew of successful high-profile high-grossing business ventures was the better business mind. That’s not even up for discussion.

      • Black Jay

        The cosign of the day!

      • Arrie Mental Woodard

not up for discussion…. am i supposed to change my mind. Jay was the face…. The face of the company usually goes on to bigger and better but the face of the company becomes “the face” because there is someone behind them pulling strings getting that person where they need to be to become “the face”. im going to give a terrible analogy but here goes…. Drake is now an executive of the toronto raptors! Why you ask? i ask the same thing but its because of Drake the rapper/singer everyone loves to hate. He has done nothing to prove he knows anything about basketball. Now say if he does a good job then more companies will come in and now he is on the path to becoming a good business man. ok End bad analogy…. the point jay was a huge mc on the hip hop success ladder helping him land these other higher profile gigs, all the while learning the business which led to him becoming the business man he is now. But… but!!! it all started with him watching Dame scream on Def Jam and whoever else as they built rocafella.

      • pauleyPee

While I applaud your vigor, please spend that passion on the political issues affecting your community. Your community needs an impetuous guy like you, who refuses to jump off of a capsizing vessel, regardless of any impending doom.

      • Arrie Mental Woodard

funniest thing i read all day. I forgot this is allhiphop where everybody thinks there opinion or comment outweighs someone else. agree to disagree. i dont think your a jigga dick rider and im not a dame dick rider we just got 2 different opinions. and how is my passion any different than yours. im just typing and my community is cool!!!

      • pauleyPee

I call it “agreeing to disagree” when it’s a discussion about apples and oranges. This is a black and white issue. Either you’re killing the business world or you’re not. Put a check in the former’s box for Jay-Z, in the latter’s box for Damon Dash.

But I’m just effin’ with you dude, even though I think you’re totally drinking the wrong koolaid.

      • Arrie Mental Woodard

its all good man. i dont take this ish serious anyway, just entertainment and a good way to kill some time at work. i mean in the end its clear who is winning… Jay Z, we can both agree on that. hopefully Dame can get back to half of what he was (with Jay) but probably not!

      • pauleyPee

How about fu** both Dame and Jay, and let the two dudes arguing over their mark asses accumulate several million in the near future? lol

      • Arrie Mental Woodard

man thats the best comment i ever read on ALLHIPHOP. hell yeah lets get money, f*ck those dudes lmao

      • Immortal

Your analogy isn’t bad at all. Jay was the face of the Nets even though he owned a very “small” percentage of the team. He was even credited with moving the team, building the stadium el al. Yet the man who really was making the shots was the Russian billionaire who was the majority “real” owner of the team. Jay was smart being that he was able to learn from those around him from his Jaz O days, to Dame being the brawn and the brain behind the music, to Jay dropping them off at the bus stop and moving forward. Jay never invented anything just was good at listening, absorbing, and putting into practical use.

      • $18916246

Ok so, make another HOV..I guess CAM just wasn’t the star Jay is? Dame never imagined the success Jay has achieved. Dame bragged on camera of being materialistic and wasteful, he just didn’t see the big picture and was too busy being ghetto fab. Their split was brains over braun…I guess the monkey suit got heavy.

      • golder1

Wrong, truetalent cant be denied. Jay would still be making good music and would have still been a star. Noone is saying Dame didnt put in work but Jay’s success is becasue of his talent not becasue of Dame screaming during meetings. Alot of people in the industry didnt want to do business with Dame, thats why he is having trouble in the business know.

  • Terrell Relle Barnett

WHAT DID HE SAY WRONG EVERYBODY KNOW HE PUT IN WORK AND ROC WAS HIS CHILD.. JAY GOT THE BETTER HAND AS FOR BUSINESS VENTURES COMING ON A MUSICAL SCALE BUT IN REALITY CRABS ALWAYS HELP THE PEOPLE THEY CAN EAT OFF AND DAME A ALL MONEY IN CAT SO HE HAD TO GO FOR ANYONE TO EAT OF JAY LIKE THE WANTED TO..DAME AND THE ROC WOULD BE BETTER IF JAY HAD STAYED AND MORE MONEY WOULDVE BEEN MADE ON A INDIE LEVEL BUT ON THE LARGE SCALE THEY WASNT HAVING THAT WITH DAME.. I RESPECT DAMN MORE THAN ANY OF THESE SO CALLED BOSSES BECAUSE HIS ENTIRE TEAM ATE AND HE DIDNT DICK RIDE JAY TO PUT THE TEAM ON..

    • Jayson C Williams

      I agree mostly

    • golder1

Without Jay Dame has no job. Jay was the talent and Dame was the mouth piece. But the mouth piece started to rub peoplethe wrong way becasue of his attitude. Dame wroke hard getting Roc-a-Fella name out theri but without Jay’stalent their is not label and no millions
