Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill & Q-Tip Are Working On A Hip Hop Drama

(AllHipHop News) The (fake) wolves of Wall Street are preparing to produce a Hip Hop drama with a Tribe member. Q-Tip has teamed up with the stars of The Wolf of Wall Street Jonah Hill and Leonardo DiCaprio to work on a Hip Hop drama TV series based on his life and times during the Native Tongues era.

The scripted drama does not have a writer currently, however according to Deadline the project is heading to negotiations with TV networks next week. Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way will produce the television series based on Q-Tip’s experiences during the late 80s to early 90s run of Native Tongues era.

The Native Tongues was a musical collective which consisted of Hip Hop acts A Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep, De La Soul, The Jungle Brothers and a bevvy of other acts.

Check out Q-Tip in a rare interview discussing the Zulu Nation, from 1990 below:

It sounds good. Would be cool to see it develop. Wonder who will star in it as the respective artists? A Tribe called Quest’s music was INSTRUMENTAL in my development into a DECENT PERSON. Almost met Tip at a video shoot when I was a youth (he was very busy). Phife, Ali and Omar Epps were HUMBLE enough to let us hang with them freestylin’ and rappin ALL DAY and into the wee hours. They didn’t even know us. That was a DREAM come TRUE as a kid. Can NEVER forget that. I was ALREADY a FAN but when they did that, I became a FAN4LIFE. #GOODDUDES #SOULBROTHERS

Was fortunate enough to meet Leo as well. Another HUMBLE dude. That is the ONLY person I know of that has a P.O. Box instead of an address on his driver’s license. Didn’t even know you can do that…

nigga.. shut your lyin ass up..

      • acapwn

I’m sure he could make up a better story than that, if he’s lyin.

      • Terrance

The video was Hot Sex and it was shot in Flatbush at the OLD theater. The dummy in the video sitting in the background was our’s. From my Boy’s Mom’s beauty salon from around the corner. Leo is another story that I won’t get into. This is a Hip-Hop site and I SHARE Hip-Hop stories from time to time when RELEVANT in my eyes. #NOTHING2LIEABOUT

      • Casor_G

Doubt you lying but that isht was funny

      • Terrance

        It WAS funny tho…

      • I remember both tribe and De La as very down to earth.
I lived in Hamburg, Germany that time. And De La came to their own concert by just going through the main entrance where ppl were standing in line. In the 90s rappers didn’t bring all that stupid ego shit. I remember meeting Jeru the Damaja at an instore autograph session at Beatstreet records in Brooklyn.

I asked him when are you gonna be in Germany. He said Let me talk to my manager. 2 month later he was there to do a show. He said, I told u I was gonna come down. A lot of rappers have learned traveling to different countries makes sense.
I saw Grandmaster Flash and DJ Jazzy Jeff last year in Shanghai. The whole world loves good music.

      • Terrance

BeatStreet was the place to be in the 90’s for Hip-Hop fans. Flatbush Brooklyn was and STILL is a HOTSPOT… I imagine that at some point EVERYONE comes across a celebrity. What their experience is with that celebrity can turn them into a FAN or a DETRACTOR. Fortunately we are lucky enough to have had good experiences with that. I’ve heard some HORROR stories about ppl running into celebs.

Shanghai, that is FLY sh*t. Hip-Hop is UNIVERSAL Big Boi!!!

    • Sean Taylor

I don’t know you but come here and take a look at my license…I have a PO BOX as my address. It’s that kwel, teheheheheheheheh

    • Khris Hutson

I pictured someone relaying this story calmly, but yelling every word in caps.

      • Terrance

The caps are for EMPHASIS, not yelling.

  • MrNoName2K

sounds like a good concept.. id check it out

  • John Q. Public

Jonah Hill is a big hip hop head… Just saw Wolf of Wall Street last night and it was good, but not as great as I expected.

    • johnblacksad

Love actor Jonah Hill and I didn’t even know he was a hip hop head… ok, now he gets a permanent spot in my book.

Heard Wolf of Wall Street is great… that’s the next movie I’m tryin to catch

      • John Q. Public

It was very good, I feel like it didn’t need to be 3hrs tho. plus im judging it against other Scorsese movies which is setting the bar pretty f*ckin high you know.
Jonah Hills character is the best part of the movie as well he did great.

    • Sparky Flinstone

U wylin that movie was tuff!

      • John Q. Public

Was good, prolly best movie out right now. Doesn’t crack Scorsese’s top 5 tho

With it being related to the Native Tongue Experience it should be good. I would just hate to see us portrayed in a negative light every week for the nation to see. It would be nice to show the nation a different version of hip hop. Cause I get tired as heck of people who think all rappers do is spit about violence, bitchess n hoes, how much money, jewelry, etc. they have. Non hip hop people need to see hip hop from a different viewpoint, but of course many people who already think that way prolly won’t never watch it.

    • Ralph Jtek Cruz

And with a site like worldstarhiphop it doesnt help the race at all…..
The majority shit on it is pure garbage and shine light on the negative..instead of the positive side..

  • lola lovely la’shaun

well honestly, white people own rap music and used us to make it great. I love leo and hill is cool and q tip is q tip.

  • lola lovely la’shaun

I love the wolf of wall street anyone that worked in the 80’s and 90’s and EARLY 2000’s know that this movie is the truth. Hard to swallow, but americans were getting it good rather illegal or legal.

  • Dan_Tebasco

I dunno the Native Tongue although they had some decent music they seem like sort of the hippies of hiphop, I’m unsure how exciting the script would be

    • C. Rice

Dog, you destroyed all of your credibility with this post.

    • Tribe were the heart and soul of Hip-Hop.

They were never soft. They always represented
Hardcore Hip-Hop but kept it real.

“Strictly Hardcore tracks not the New Jack Swing”

You still need to learn a lot.

      • Dan_Tebasco

I’ll be real I was never into those guys that much so maybe I don’t know too much about what they were about… That’s just the impression that I got… Most of it long after they were on the map since I was a little too young in their heydays…

      • Appreciate your honesty.
But if it wasn’t for Tribe’s first album.
A lot of underground rap today would
        sound much different. Smooth Jazz
        sample’s with abstract sounds.
Their music sounded always a bit housy,
but house artists also sampled from the
        same sources.

Tribe (Native Tongues) along with Gangstarr,
DITC, KRS One, PE are those groups which
        gave Hip-Hop fundamental credibility and
inspired millions of young people worldwide.
the underground was never interested in
        who’s selling the most records.

      • johnblacksad

        each one teach one

    • johnblacksad

whaaaat? decent?! I hope you have a way worse word than “trash” or “garbage” for the music that’s being done right now…

Band Nubian, De La, Tribe… maaan you got some real catchin up to do for real

A lot of Ignorant Black People don’t realize that from the time of NWA & PE there are tons of white people who grew up with Hip Hop & have genuine love for the music! Don’t look at their skin color & what they do for a living & let it make you think it’s all an act! it’s like when Black people think because a white actress make tons of money acting & then see them in an interview & see how lacking in intelligence they are they say “Damn she’s dumb as hell”! Because she can act doesn’t make her have basic common sense.I hope the project turns out well like the documentary White actor Mike Rapoport did. It’s a classic for any true ATCQ fan!!

    • TheAfroRican

True. The ATCQ documentary was awesome.

    • ddsrerer

Well, to be fair black people are right most times. Of course there are genuine fans but there are also so many culture vultures as well people being ironic. These guys are pretty young so i guess it would make sense for them to say that they rock with hip-hop.

  • There are millions of people who love real Hip-Hop, just like Leonardo Di Caprio and those white guys. Just because a dying record industry doesn’t invest into true art it doesn’t mean people are not going to be interested. Forcing ppl to buy CDs or ringtones if you already have better music on your HDD is not a good business model.
so they need to produce music for people who do not own desktop computers. Who are not smart enough to browse the internet. Because everybody else won’t buy the product if it’s not the top 5 artists. This doesn’t mean people will not spend money for a great product. A movie is a great idea.
Music is not a black or white thing. When I was in Europe people would talk about
black music this and that. Think back. All music you hear nowadays is black music.
From Rap, to house, to R&B, to rock, jazz, country. Anything that comes with a beat was started by black people.

  • TheAfroRican

This is a GREAT move! Both Leo and Jonah are hip-hop heads. I do recall Leo being a big Nas fan.

  • KLewis

Q-Tip and DiCaprio are like best friends. They’ve been hanging out since the 90s. It was DiCaprio who put the pressure on Tip to finish and release Renaissance.

ITS ABOUT THE GAYEST UNDERCOVER IN THE CLOSET HIPOHOP CREW OUT THERE : THE NATIVE TONGUES

  • Pierre Elliott

I WILL SAY THIS: WHEN YOU TALK TO A STRAIGHT UP ROCK N ROLL WHITE BOY-AND HE TELLS YOU STRAIGHT UP **HOW**AND WHY **RAP** MUSIC SUCKS

HE WILL TELL YOU ALL THE SAME THING YOUR BOYS IN THE HOOD KNOW
AND TRUST ME–CORPORATE AMERICA KNOWS THIS–THATS WHY THEY HAVE TRIED SO HARD***** I MEAN ITS INCREDIBLE TO SEE WHAT THEY WILL DO TO CHANGE THE FACE OF RAP FROM A ***UNIVERSAL***SOUND AND STYLE WHICH WAS RAP MUSIC **NOT** HIP HOP—

BUT YOU CANT SAY ANYTHING WHEN THE VAN HALEN NIRVANA MOLLY HATCHET TELLS YOU WHAT SONGS WERE GOOD ON PUBLIC ENEMYS ALBUM—THERES REALLY NOT MUCH TO DISCUSS–CAUSE HE KNOWS HIS SHlT.

AND THATS HOW I GREW UP——AND WHEN MUSIC CHANGED FROM ALL FLAVORS TO JUST ONE—THERES A PROBLEM.

AND IN AMERICA–FOR A LONGGGGGGG TIME—- ANYTHING RADIO OR COMMERCIAL WAS ALREADY LABELED WACK, CAUSE EVERYONE KNEW THAT IT WOULDNT BE REAL, IT WOULD BE CORNY SOFT AND FAKE FOR SOFT WHITE BLIND AMERICA—–THE AMERICA THAT DOESNT RECOGNIZE WHITES AND BLACKS CHILL TOGETHER——-AND MORE THAN OFTEN FORM LONG LASTING BONDING RELATIONSHIPS…..

i have issues with tribe and some people personally—–
