Andre 3000-Jimi Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix Biopic Starring Andre 3000 Debuting At SXSW

(AllHipHop News) After years and family disagreements, the Jimi Hendrix biopic Jimi: All Is By My Side will debut at this year’s South by South West event in Austin, TX.

The biopic starring Andre 3000, directed and written by the scriptwriter of 12 Years A Slave, John Ridley. The film will document Hendrix’s rise to fame in London during the years of 1966 and 1967. Jimi Hendrix’s family owned estate, Experience Hendrix LLC, refused to allow Hendrix’s original music to be included in the film since they were not asked to participate in the movie’s formation. As a result, the only music Andre 3000 will be playing as Jimi Hendrix will be covers of The Beatles, Troggs, Muddy Waters and others that Hendrix frequently performed during his burgeoning years.

Along with Jimi, South By Southwest will also debut director David Laven’s  SVDDXNLY which follows the rise to stardom of A$AP Rocky and the A$AP Mob.

The South By South West Festival will run from March 7th to March 16th.

    • Boomie Rogers

      nigga u r slow

      • W.E.B. Du Bois

Hendricks supposedly died by overdose – but that may not be true, since it happened in the 60’s when a lot of famous deaths and strange things happened, and he was a black guy drunk around a lot of people he problably didn’t know, and in Canada

      • Boomie Rogers

ok, um… why r u telling me this?

      • W.E.B. Du Bois

I’m telling everybody – because he cudda been murdered, like mariylyn Monroe, the kennedys, etc etc

      • AlbertoRipRon

He was in the UK at the time of his death.

      • W.E.B. Du Bois

OK – google just taught you something a minuite ago

      • AlbertoRipRon

No, it’s something I’ve known for years since reading about Jimi. Stop being so sensitive…Butchy

      • W.E.B. Du Bois

you reading don’t mean you know anything “alberto” – gotta go out and be accepted in the world and talk to people

      • AlbertoRipRon

You must have been born with some medical issues dude. That’s is the single most stupidest post I read Butchy. You can go out and be accepted in the world. But real leaders and shakers have the world accept them because they bring uniqueness to the table. You just another perforated boy who getting all sensitive since I said Jimi died in UK. Go to the doctor and up your testosterone intake

      • W.E.B. Du Bois

Ha Ha LOL – your saying the world accepts you? – ha that’s really funny – the commenters on this site don’t even accept you (I don’t) – if you stepped out in the world, you’d be killed in a week, because no one will like you

      • AlbertoRipRon

Ladycraig your estrogen levels are way too high. Like I said, you way too sensitive LadyCraig. Plug them tampons in. You don’t even have basic reading comprehension skills.

      • acapwn

You were wrong and you talk shit about how he knows? lmao corny!

    • Boomie Rogers

i dont care about the film schedule. I called u slow because thats illiterate shit u wrote

  • Eli Pinilla

I’m skeptical about this one. I’ll be surprised if he can pull it off. I see a gravy/biggie performance more than a Jamie fox/ray one….and why everybody actin like Wood Harris ain’t already play Jimmie in a biopic?!?!

    • $18916246

Wood, did an excellent job too…I think Andre can act but is little too short for the role.

    • W.E.B. Du Bois

Thank You Homie – you made me put that on my next Netflix – didn’t know about that movie

  • W.E.B. Du Bois

I think Hendricks got “too big” for his times, with all the white babes, his popularity, for a black guy in the 60’s while being drunk – my only evidence is other blacks of that time were taken out they got big, – black panthers, malcom X, etc – and they were not HIgh all the time like Hendricks

    • W.E.B. Du Bois

what does that mean? – nah, nevermind ” alberto “

      • AlbertoRipRon

        Ok Butch

      • W.E.B. Du Bois

I’m glad Ima Butch – and not a alberto

      • AlbertoRipRon

Oooookay. What are you, 6 and still living with your momma? If so, my bad boy…I don’t wanna argue with no kid who still gets his lunch paid by his momma at the cafeteria.

      • W.E.B. Du Bois

I’d bet you anything – I’ve accomplished more in 1/5th of my life – than you ever will

      • AlbertoRipRon

lol you’re a softy b. All this post emotion because you were wrong about Jimi’s place of death.

      • AlbertoRipRon

Let me drop knowledge since I replied to you on disqus and didn’t see this in context. Latch key kid is a term given to children who has a home without parental supervision. Often times, the parents stay working alot and the kids supervise themselves. According to the biography I read, Jimi was given this name because he lived in that type of situation, often having to stay at a friends’ house to eat and such.

  • MassConglom

I see A$AP Rocky is still using SPVCXGHXZTPVRRP’s RVIDXR KLVN (SpaceGhostPurrp’s Raider Klan) Hieroglyphics…smh. Them some bitin a– niggas.

So it’s finally happening… I remember in 2001-2002 Andre talked about how he was gonna play Hendrix in a movie on a tv-show… Andre is one of the better rappers turned actors and he has had along time to get in tune with the character so I think he’ll do a good job… A shame that they couldn’t use Hendrix own songs though and that they had to set it before his success, hopefully is background history is interesting enough…

Debut at SXSW? Not a good sign.

    • Cerebral Assassin

Not a good sign to debut at SXSW? Umm you ever heard of The Hurt Locker it won an academy award one guess as to where it debuted? Ever heard of the documentary “Undefeated” guess what? Debuted at SXSW also won an academy award. How about Bridesmaid, guess where that debuted? See where I’m going? Or should I continue, Cabin in the Woods, 21 Jump Street, Evil Dead, Burt Wonderstone, Spring Breakers, How about Snoop’s documentary Reincarnated. See where I’m going with this. Even if we kept it as a music thing, performers such as Kanye, Talib Kweli, Lil Wayne, Big Sean have representing Hip Hop, not to mention traditional rock and pop acts. Even more than that, 4square and Twitter, while it was no where on anyones radar until both of them brought their apps and the Austin attendees help make them popular don’t take my word for it, look it up google is your friend. Trust me when I say since 2007 SXSW has grown incredibly, its a good move having the movie debut at there.

      • Montezuma1

If you’re correct then I stand corrected. I’m accustomed to films debuting at FILM festivals. Why not Sundance or Cannes or Toronto? Is this a rap movie?

      • Cerebral Assassin

SXSW has increased it’s music, film and interactive, before it was mostly music and interactive (apps etc). The reason I listed hip-hop acts is well this is allhiphop ya know like do you wanna know that springsteen performed there last year? Or that John Meyer didn’t have a record deal until after he first performed at SXSW? My point was that SXSW is a major venue. I moved to Austin 15 years ago and it was pretty much a regional thing since then it’s nuts to see all the progress that has been made. While most of their movies don’t debut at SXSW – both Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez screen all their movies at the Paramont theatre in Austin, Kevin Smith has screen several movies here too. That was kind of my point that it’s a good look, not saying it’s Cannes but it’s growing into something like that several indy films that were screened at SXSW got distribution a week after being shown.

Hendrix Fan from Seattle! – First whoever said Andre 3000 is too short first Jimi was 5’9″-5’10” he wasn’t 6’5″ second Jimi Hendrix played ALOT of other peoples music All Along the Watchtower one of his most popular songs wasn’t in fact Jimi’s Music! the Music that became super popular were not his so that doesn’t change much – third JImi didn’t get killed he was on drugs and suffocated from his own throw up
from mixing drugs he died in London were racism at the time wasn’t as hi as in America and when he died he wanted to be buried there but he got buried in Renton,Wa(sickest Grave Site Ever worth ALOT!) his Dad died and his brother took over on the estate(my dad knows jimis brother i think his name is Leon) i could see them getting sued over this…(using Jimi Hendrix name and life kinda Rick Ross-ish)
as a Hendrix Fan i’m gonna see it but should of got lens approval!

    • W.E.B. Du Bois

research says Hendrix was 5-11, Andre is 5-6, that’s a Lot shorter – Jimi was known as well for his solos and live performances, which was his OWN guitar playing, not someone eles’s – 3rd, you re-gur-gitatiing the rumor he died from drugs changes Nothing from Us not knowing how he died – the Fact remains that legal authorities played a hand in a Lot of Negro deaths in the 60’s – Hendrix and rick ross? – that’s even More Stupid – theres no comparison to this talented musican, said to be the greatest, with a person that only rhymes over pre-recorded music – you know him? – same ol’ Lie about your brother’s cousin’s momma knows a celebrity

      • acapwn

That tin foil on tight, huh?
