Hip-Hop Rumors: Is Timbaland Really Helping Jodeci’s Comeback?

I cannot say where this comes from, but there is a little birdie talking. But first, you may have seen the rumors where Timbaland claimed that he was helping the Jodeci guys to get back into form. Well, this seems to be slightly exaggerated, at least. It could be completely wrong too. Basically, there does not seem there is any Timbaland involved in the Jodeci comeback. Truly, Timbaland has a real relationship with the group and it goes so deep as to DeVante giving him his producer name…yep! So this still may happen!

  • Papi Peligro

It never made sense why they broke up. Other than K-CI and JoJo didn’t need the DJ. They fell way off. Their music back in the day had some gems on it but it was Diddy style. Like 4 good songs the rest you can forget about.

    • r&b forever

“Like 4 good songs, the rest you can forget about”????
That’s the craziest musical comment I can remember in years!!!

      • Papi Peligro

        I meant per Album.

    • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

      I agree, I wasn’t a big fan but I’m trying to remember 4 and I’ve got 3. that I did like.

      • r&b forever

Them dudes had 4 #1 hits off of the “Forever My Lady Album” (Stay, Forever My Lady, Come and Talk 2 Me, Lately), 2 big hits off of “Diary of a Mad Band” (Feenin’ & Cry-4-U), and 2 big hits off of “The Show, The Party, The Hotel” (Freek-n-U & Luv-u-4-life). And about 30-remixes between the 3-albums.

You young dudes need to know your history. Them dudes defined and set the standard the 90’s R&B. Everybody has been trying to catch up since they left the scene.

  • They made there mark, and sold millions….These dudes are old and need to relax, let the younger kids get a chance….Move over……Jodeci is finished out here do something else.

    • SeekingMyMassa

Any white Massa could give an artist a good comeback.
If an artist cannot comeback then they weren’t much in the first place.

My Massa wants me to get the whip on you.

      • What I really am trying to say is that, these old artists make it extremely hard for new artists to break into the industry…….Unless you are an artists like Jay-z or Diddy, etc; who never stopped working and is a boss who actually sign checks, then you should be trying to introduce new talent to the world and not trying to do more when your fanbase have clearly moved on and are grown people with families.

      • SeekingMyMassa

I see what you are saying about talent but they contradicts your other statements.

      • Sorry for sounding in such a contradicting way, but we all shouldn’t just listen to music because it’s hot and popular, we should listen to music that speaks to our demographic.

      • Immortal

So what you’re saying in a layman’s sense that blacks should stick to “black” music because we have a “lane” set up for “us”, and should not venture out and listen to other types? That makes no sense. If that were the case then there Rock and Roll as we know it would not exist because Lil Richard, Fats Domino and other pioneers would never have left the “black lane” and made classic songs that are still played long after they’re gone. Listening to music SHOULD be based on what is hot and popular to you the listener, not based on some well blacks are to do this, whites, this, and whomever does something else. The President dancing to Justin Beiber? If that makes him feel good, and brings him a smile, then I’m all for it. If he sang Barry Manilow to his wife before bed, I’d care less. If your man sung Trace Adkins to you every morning and it brought you two closer, who cares the type of music as long as you can enjoy it? I listen to everything and refuse to be typecast into a particular genre because that’s “what’s expected of me”.

      • SeekingMyMassa

        I see your point.

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

My man u got a lot to learn about music. A true Artist always look in the past to learn the furture of music. Why you think sampling was so popular. Music goes round in cycle. Just like what u thinks is hot, 5 yrs from now younger people will think is wack.

      • Carlos

thats why recording artists dont have a long career.
they cater to the young crowd, instead of growing up with their fan base. BTW, your last sentence, are you saying that grown people should change the music they listen to as they age?

      • Absolutely, as we age our selection of music should too…How would it look for somebody like Obama dancing to a Justin Bieber song, when his music is clearly targeting young girls….The greatest thing about my theory is that the music industry is so big that there is a genre for everyone to enjoy.

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

Why would any grown person wanna listen to him?

    • Charismatic eNegro Jef Vinson

      …old? 40 isn’t old.

That being said if they are going to come back they CAN’T do the same shit they were doing in the ’90’s.

      • Boys2Men are still together and touring all over the world, but you don’t see them trying to make a comeback, they are just doing shows for fans that know and love them….Any artists from the 90’s who is trying to recreate themselves now are just damaging their own legacy….It’s a new day the kids nowadays are on to fresh new faces, they care very little about old artists who were once hot way back in the hay day.

      • Carlos

i agree, they need to get in on those valentines day cruises like boys to men be doing or go on tour and sing your old sheet, Im positive old fans will go see them.

      • Antwon Grant

Valentine cruises….dude Jodeci still sells out venues…will be in my city next month and probably sell out…u on some ol Barry Manilow shit with that lol

      • They are not selling out shows, performing half drunk and druged up with no shirt on….I seen the vides and KC is a hot mess.

      • cromthelaughinggod7

Those niggas look like a new age Eddie Kane. GTFOH! They are not selling out shows. They had a show were both passed out on the floor. It was even featured on here years ago if I am not mistaken and all media sites. Google it. Where have you been? hahah Lies!

      • I agree.

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

        Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage.

      • Charismatic eNegro Jef Vinson

That’s not what I mean. Boys II Men don’t dress and act like they did when they were 20. Jodeci as a whole need to update their look.

      • Hendrix2020

What makes you think that Jodeci will try to dress and act like they are young again. KC & JoJo made grown folks music after the group broke up and Im sure thats what they would do now. If Charlie Wilson can comeback and R Kelly can still sell then so can Jodeci. Grown folks listen to music too ya know?

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

That’s what get me man, young people think music just for them now. Music is for everybody. Different taste for different people.

      • $28825362

Man you don’t know shyt. Boyz II Men don’t tour. They have a running show in Las Vegas. Get yo facts up

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

Check their resume they still put out
albums, they just don’t get the radio play and besides if you got hits you can always tour, even with one hit.

      • Immortal

You’re right on 40 not being old, but they CAN come out singing the same stuff they sung in the 90’s, they CAN’T come back ACTING like they did in the 90’s. There has to be a level of progression with the music to match the age. It would be the same way if Jay Z was talking about moving bricks in Marcy. Dude hasn’t moved a brick since his last bowel movement, but can easily talk about the past, but relate it to what he’s going now and in the future. Still the hustler, but not of the same thing.

    • Do you mean ” their mark” ?

  • Antwon Grant

The funny thing is…when white artists do it its fine…u cant tell me if the Rolling Stones came out with a new album right now that their people wouldn’t support it..and they could do a major tour with it…but black folks do it..whether its rap or r/b..and yall muckas be on some oh they are old they need to move on shit….that’s whats wrong with our people..if Jodeci dropped an album today and the music was good..I’d support it…cant be no worse than the bs on the radio now.

    • Obi Won

Key words out the whole paragraph…..”if Jodeci dropped an album today and the music was good”
Jodeci raised the bar for themselves, but IF its good music, people wont hate, they’ll push it. They would have to have good writers, and cater to generations young and old. They did it before, except back they were young and older people liked their songs, versus now, them being older and young people being able to relate.

      • Hendrix2020

I don’t think they would be making music for young people. They didnt make it for them then so why would they now? It would be for the grown and sexy. Some youngsters would like it if they like real music. The same fan base who supported them then will do so today. I know I would. It’s just a matter of the right promotion.

    • Seriouslyfolks

Steven Tyler looks like DEATH, and white folks would sell their CHILDREN for an Aerosmith Reunion Album/Tour. Ahh…. the Self-Hate is so great….

    • TB

Antwon, you’re correct, but the contradiction between the genres lie in that R&B you have to be able to sing whereas Rock they don’t need to know how to sing. Rock can scream their lungs out, mumble, and it’s a great show. Let Marvin Gaye back in the 70’s do that shit, it’s over, and he’s part of Unsung on TVOne now.

    • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

You right man, I least check it out before i make any decision.

  • Live Well

He should since he owes his whole start to DeVante Swing. If DeVante never goes crazy, Timberland would still be in his shadow.

  • cromthelaughinggod7

They are so far down in the dumps. Crack has got a hold of both brothers. All of their concerts have been complete horror. They need rehab first before even touching a mic. The only thing on their minds has been crack pipes. Wish the best word up! Crack kills people!

    • DJ7

Heroin fam…they might crack it up as well, don’t know about that b.u.t. I know for sure that heroin was their drug of choice from a very reliabe source in Charlotte NC

      • BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

Say it ain’t so man, I heard the concert was horrible, what they losing their voice or something. But heroin man, damn man hate to anybody messing with that shit.

      • cromthelaughinggod7

Drugs is drugs. I heard that they were cracking it up. Especially KC for years. Heroin is no better they are still drugs despite the fact they need to clean it up wouldn’t you agree. I don’t use those drugs so they are all bad.

      • DJ7

IMO, heroin is much harder to kick due to the body’s dependency of it b.u.t. no doubt…drugs is drugs and I concur that they all need to clean themselves up

    • g123

“All their concert have been complete horror” funniest comment I read all day. Actually made my day. thanks a lot !

      • cromthelaughinggod7

My cousin actually was at one of their shows where they fell out. It is on utube. It was bad my G!

  • David Gonz

they say he was the ghost producer the whole time cuz davonte was smokin that shit!!

    • Guess Who?

Hmmm No… Devante did the Forever My Lady album way before he met any of the Basement crew. Do your research before you post BS. And I am sure half the industry is coked up I doubt that’s why Devante hasn’t been around maybe he got black listed for hanging with Suge and 2Pac remember the two major hitters were and still is Dr. Dre and Pdiddy…

      • David Gonz

ok not all. some. i just remember what i heard gee. im not really a fan of rnb and pop rap.

      • Guess Who?

Maybe the fillers gee… he may have lend a hand in, not the major hits from the last two albums, the fillers not what Jodeci was known for anyways. All the hits Devante wrote and produced!

  • Ciz

Timbalamps and Denaun Porters be lookin like stumpy brothas from anotha

  • i’mreloaded!

First and foremost, there has neva been a group like Jodeci. Them boys made music to pull yo bish hair to, straight up. They were really the first group to use heavy bass in them R&B songs. Now wit dat, lemme say dis, if they come back, I’m gonna be real disappointed if they change their sound up to fit in wit today’s shitty R&B. Dem niggas set trends, they shouldn’t follow. I wanna remember their music the way it was so I hope they don’t come back wit no bullshit. I think them, Jagged Edge, 112, and the ORIGINAL Dru Hill should drop a new album on the same day and I bet all dem niggas would go platinum if they stick to their original formula with NO guest appearances from no new niggas. Stank u very much.

    • Guest

“Going platinum” is also old, do you know how difficult it is to fill a stadium these days? Not even the NFL could sell out game tickets and they invested 10 million on that bullshit “Superbowl BLVD”…..So for a group that’s been taken over by drugs and old age, who is jumping over barriers and booking out hotel rooms just to see JoJo drink a 40 on stage? I can’t…I’m done.

    • Admitt it, you just like to be entertained by crackheads…..You love crackheads so much open your front door and say hi you your neighbors…lol

      • i’mreloaded!

Dude, first off admit is spelled with one t not two. Second, I don’t know if you talkin slick or you just jokin around but I hope it’s the latter. Lastly, groups from the 90’s still have die hard fans who appreciate real R&B and not all these watered down knockoffs who think they can really sing. Albums don’t need to go platinum these days young’n, you can go platinum off singles and if you noticed, I said if they come back like they were before they’ll be straight, but if they come back on some bullshit, I’d rather they just stay gone. Dior? Are you a girl or boy? Or in between? Anyway, we need some real R&B right now and there are no groups out right now anyway.

      • Y’all old dudes be catching feelings…Let’s just talk about the topic at hand and keep it moving. #justsaying

    • Poseidon

Mann…. took the thoughts right out of my head. That sound epitomized sex in the 90’s. Every vivid memory of all the hookups I can remember from that era play out to a Jodeci soundtrack hahaha. Shit, and those were my junior high to high school years. Good shit….

Tim’s cool and everything but I honestly hope it’s Devante on the boards again. That signature sound is unmistakeable…..

  • No one is buying music like that anymore, much less Jodeci’s music…Jodeci’s fans are old people who are not computer savvy….Who even rushes to music stores anymore? Are there any music stores around anymore? #dead

    • Pierre Elliott
