Bonnaroo Promoter Explains Booking Kanye West After Calling Organizers “F**kin Idiots” In ’08

BONNAROO FESTIVAL TAPS KANYE WEST AGAIN AFTER 2008 DEBACLE

(AllHipHop News) Despite his run-ins with the paparazzi and constant rants about everything, Kanye West’s career does not include many lo-lights when it comes to his music and performances. One exception was his 2008 performance at the Bonnaroo Festival.

West was highly criticized that year for showing up for his set several hours late even after forcing other acts to cut their shows short. Kanye went on to blast the organizers and others for the issues. He even called the people behind the event “f**kin idiots” in a blog post.

The G.O.O.D. Music leader will be back in Manchester, Tennessee again for this year’s Bonnaroo. One of the festival’s promoters, Rick Farman of Superfly, explained the decision to go with Kanye to Relix:

First and foremost, we think Kanye is one of the most prolific and groundbreaking artists of this generation. He’s hugely influential. His albums are as great and as acclaimed as they get. He’s also a great live performer. He takes a lot of chances and he’s adventurous with the live space. All those things are what Bonnaroo performers are about. That’s why we booked him [in 2008].

Everyone has moved on—it’s in the past. We’re happy he wants to come back to Bonnaroo and is embracing this. It’s a great opportunity for everyone to look forward, and we think it’s a great opportunity for the Bonnaroo community to show what it’s made of. It goes back to what Bonnaroo stands for: It’s about having good time, radiating positivity and that whole message. We couldn’t be more excited about what we think has the potential to be another historic Bonnaroo moment.

Kanye will be joined by Miss Lauryn Hill, Pusha T, Chance The Rapper, Danny Brown, Frank Ocean, Janelle Monáe, and many more at Bonnaroo 2014. The festival is scheduled for June 12-15.
