Hip-Hop Rumors: Pharrell And A Hip-Hop God To Collab?

You gotta love Pharrell! This dude’s talent knows no bounds! He’s riding high on “Happy” juice and what does he go an do? Spark rumors that he and “god of rap” Rakim will do a joint together. That’s pretty cool considering P could work with anybody he wants these days. The same thing goes for Rakim, because he’s such a dude of integrity, he may not want to work with anything pop oriented. Can’t wait for this one.

Remember when Rakim and Jody Watley worked together? Of course you don’t, but it goes to show you that Rakim will do some pop ish! Check it:

  • i’mreloaded!

Rakim still look da same like he did 20 years ago. Hope dis ish is true.

    • illseed

He really does and that’s crazy

      • That ‘chet was 20 years ago Mayane!

      • 25 years ago to be exact.

        1989

      • I ain’t even have to play it!

I remember exactly where I was because of “My Friends” & it wasn’t a good place.

No $hot$ at one of the thoroughest Ninjaz in the world, but “What about your friends?”
        Sent a message.

Not the Ninjaz I was DOWN with, but the one I “WAS” down with…but wasn’t “DOWN” with us.

Rakim’s “POP” excursion is harder than 85% of today’s “TOP” rappers / PaPPers ( Pop Rappers? ** copyrights the term / phrase / name ** ) Hardest hardcore.

Plus….what single thoroughbred Ninja didn’t have a crush on Jody? She could have scooped anyone, but she chose Rakim & was thorough enough for him to accept.

No internet / propped up fake Industry artist….you had to have talent.

They didn’t even have pictures on the albums. Your single’s artwork was the label’s logo. Ninjaz had to hear it by word of mouth that The Beastie Boys were white….then came the marketing, but that’s another comment for a different article.

Ninjaz never heard of marketing….ya’ chet had to be official!

        Her jawnt was “EVERYTHING”

While it was a chick 2 guy song, it also reminded me of a friend I lost when he went “DOWN” for a qaurter. Tight, hung out everyday…seperated only by “DOWNTIME” & distance when we got older.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR LIFE RECAP, LOL!!!

No disrespect, but just like 50 was poking fun at Mayweather bcuz of his girl, I couldn’t resist the urge to laugh.

But that jawn was massive back in the day and I recognize it taking you to a particular point, at a particular time in your life…music tends to make one feel nostalgic like that

        Peace

      • hahaha!

        That’s what’s up!

Glad it touched you in a positive way!

        >>Breaks down crying all emotional & ‘chet like if on an “E” pill

        Peace!

      • ZUBU

Whatup ED, Jody Watley was the shiiitt back in the day fine as heck and very talented.
What the young folk know about Shalamar……… Jody, Howard Hewitt, Jeffery Daniels.
I got a similar Jody story. Late 80’s, Jody’s new album had just came out with the hit sinle (I’M LOOKING FOR A NEW LOVE) Well I buy my girl the album she listens to Jody and promptly leaves my ass. Yo, it was a bought lesson lol……

      • Oh Mayane!

        That was fugged up!

        I know that jawnt!

        >>Hope she left the cassette at least!

SMDH @ The B’ish probably keeping it!

      • ZUBU

Yo she kept that shiitt lol..

  • ZUBU

    Rakim Allah…… Peace

  • jd

Yes Please pick up where Dr. Dre left off. Still mad that didn’t happen.

    • did dre even start? i can only think of like 3 or 4 artists dre put out since after, math. eminem, 50, kendrick… thats all i can really think of.

      • jd

Well Busta and Eve were on his label but as far as new like the ones you mentioned, nah.

      • Jack “The Assassin” Tatum

        That’s a pretty good 3.

    • JD

There was somebody who said Rakim couldn’t make hooks… it was just in a recent interview… f’ck can’t remember who said it but apparently the beat to 50’s “In Da Club” was original a Rakim track but he couldn’t write a good hook. That according to this dude was the problem with everything Rakim recorded under Dre.

      • jd

I can hear that. He had Eric B. in the past for that kind of problem but with all the genius of Dre he gotta find a way. Hell, he could’ve got Nate Dogg on it if that was the case.

      • Phibes

The issue between Rah & Dre was Dre wanted him to make gangster, shoot em up type hip hop & Rah wasn’t feeling it.

      • JD

Stat Quo said Rakim recorded 50 songs with Dre but could not make hooks.

      • Phibes

Not saying it wasn’t said, but Stat Quo was mistaken. There was a difference in the direction Rah wanted to go than Dre wanted too. And this is coming directly from RAH who told his son Tahmel who’s been my best friend for 15 years. That was & is the real reason things never materialized.

        Believe it or not.

      • JD

While there may be some truth to it I would guess the fact that he couldn’t make hooks is valid.

  • IceBergSlim

OMG! Damn does Rakim age he looks the same..If these two cats hook up ..That is a rap..You talking about some Fire

    • End of Days

He got that OG from the hood, black don’t crack look so he never change. Like that uncle everybody got that never looked old until he turned 65 n shit.

      • meanygreene

black dont crack???? see trick daddy.

      • Phibes

        Lol…Trick Daddy has Lupus Homie.

  • Rico

28 years later, and still my fav Emcee.

  • Brindle

hopefully he sticks with it, too many cats get behind Rakim then disappear on him…
